Job Description Senior/Executive Middle Market Underwriter – remote in the Chicago area, but must be able to market throughout Chicagoland. The Midwest Middle Market Solutions team is looking for an experienced senior/executive middle market underwriter with an entrepreneurial spirit to lead production underwriting and grow the territory for our Middle Market division. You will drive broker relationships, build account pipelines, review and analyze underwriting data, select superior risks, and maintain a profitable book of business with target broker shops. You will manage agency relationships through superior customer service, innovation, and marketing activities, collaborating with colleagues to achieve departmental goals and drive cross‑sell within Crum and the broader Fairfax entities.

Responsibilities

Lead underwriting contact for the regional territory and work directly with Regional Management.

Manage regional broker planning, analysis, and development for assigned brokers.

Meet profitability, retention, and written premium goals determined by the department.

Budget and forecast territory for overall written premium (GWP) production.

Represent the Middle Market Midwest region at key industry functions and events.

Make independent decisions within underwriting letter of authority and maintain proper file documentation.

Assist in developing annual business goals for assigned agents/producers.

Analyze results and maintain accountability of agency partners within the department.

Have in‑depth knowledge of department products and services.

Clearly articulate the department’s value proposition.

Participate in training and initiatives to develop knowledge base; may participate in projects.

Travel may be required (current driver’s license).

What You Will Bring to C&F

Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of underwriting experience required.

Strong underwriting knowledge of Property, General Liability, Automobile, Umbrella, and Workers’ Compensation.

Knowledge of all lines with Manufacturing, Retail, Wholesale, Hospitality, and other general industry risks.

Strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business and manage a renewal book.

Proficient with Excel, Outlook, Reference Connect & ImageRight software.

Experience dealing with brokers and established retail relationships in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Minnesota, & Michigan.

Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.

Possesses or is pursuing underwriting and industry designations applicable to your area of specialization.

Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market. The annualized base pay for the advertised position ranges from a minimum of $71,300 to a maximum of $134,000. Additional compensation may include discretionary equity (stock) and/or performance‑based variable pay programs.
