Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking to fill a vacant
Recreation Specialist IV
position within their Park Maintenance and Recreation Services Division in Kapolei. Under general supervision of the Parks Maintenance and Recreation Services Administrator and Assistant Administrator, this position is responsible for providing complex administrative support to the Division, program management and program development, serves the proponent for rules and regulations, recreation grant management, implementation of technological systems for recreation uses, and development of the division's internship program.
What You Will Do
Develop research studies, prepare reports and evaluate effectiveness of the city’s recreation programs.
Conduct research, review and comparative analyses of recreational programs.
Develop, review and revise applicable rules, regulations policies and procedures applicable to recreational activities.
Coordinate and develop grant proposals and seek funding sources for new or existing programs.
Develop and manage the division’s internship program for interested candidates seeking a career as a recreation professional.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Special Work Requirements
May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Will serve as a Civil Defense worker.

Minimum Qualification Requirements At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Education Requirement Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with specialization in recreation, physical education, group work or a related field.
Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.
For Example:
Four (4) years of professional work experience, in any occupation, may substitute for a general bachelor's degree.
Four (4) years of general work experience (does not need to be professional level experience) in recreation may substitute for a general bachelor's degree.

Applicable Skills Needed
Knowledge of public and recreation administration and recreation program principles
Understanding of organizational leadership, supervision, and group behavior
Awareness of community recreation needs and related social issues
Strong public relations and community engagement abilities
Ability to interpret and communicate recreation programs to the public
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to prepare reports and deliver clear instructions
Substitution: A Master's degree in recreation, physical education, or education from an accredited four‑year college or university may be substituted for one year of general recreation experience. There is
NO
substitution for the required two years of supervisory recreation experience in program specialties.
