
Community Engagement Coordinator

The Community Engagement Coordinator serves a vital role managing all volunteer services, also assisting with volunteer staff for Teachers' Harvest, Food Drives, and Food Distribution events.
Directly supervise individual volunteers and small and large groups from the community who donate their time to work at Second Harvest of South Georgia, Inc.
SHSG's Volunteer Engagement Coordinator provides volunteer support to all departments. The chosen applicant for this role serves as the volunteer recruiter, trainer and facilitator.
Along with the SHSG staff, the Community Engagement Coordinator will assure all volunteer individuals, and groups' needs are met during their period of service. The chosen applicant will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and work alongside all members of the SHSG staff.
Work Hours/Shift Regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am - 5:00 pm. However, it is important to note, this position will require some evenings and weekends for special events and recruiting opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain current and develop and implement new volunteer programs. The Community Engagement Coordinator will represent Second Harvest to the community and volunteers in a professional and courteous manner, understanding that volunteers are the lifeblood of our mission.
Create new and maintain current partnerships with corporations, schools, community-based organizations and the military to help us in our efforts to recruit volunteers and food drives.
Shoulder the responsibility for the processing, orienting and assigning of all volunteers and volunteer groups, in consultation with Human Resources and the other members of the Senior Leadership Team. This will include recruiting, screening, selecting, placing and training volunteers; planning, assigning and occasionally directing work; appraising performance; rewarding volunteers; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Serve as a liaison between volunteers and staff.
Organize and assist with special events and projects as needed with assistance from department staff.
Coordinate all volunteer recognition events in cooperation with the SHSG staff.
Work to promote Second Harvest of South Georgia, Inc. and volunteerism by attending outside events as needed and available.
Supervise maintenance of volunteer database, including the scheduling, tracking, and reporting of all volunteers here in-house and at off‑site events.
Develop and manage departmental budget in coordination with the COO.
Maintain other data for the department as necessary and appropriate.
Cross training for other departmental tasks.
Commit to and understand the SHSGA mission. This includes active participation in sharing the mission, vision and values of the organization, internally and externally, creating a culture of active philanthropy for and through all staff.
Supervise volunteers during tasks and assignments, as well as show and share responsibility for the overall Volunteer Experience.
Other duties as assigned by Senior Leadership Team.
Educational Requirements Bachelor’s Degree highly preferred, along with three years of project leadership.
Associate’s degree with five years of related volunteer experience.
Essential Required Skills
Skilled at project planning, identifying the stakeholders, determining their volunteer requirements and expectations, and, to the extent possible, managing their influence in relation to the requirements to ensure successful volunteer experience.
Demonstrated commitment to work to provide food security.
Demonstrated ability and comfort in working with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
Exceptional people skills, comfort in speaking before large groups and passion about volunteerism.
Ability to pay close attention to detail, coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities to meet deadlines.
An ability and vision to create new programming to meet needs and ability to follow‑through and implement projects with little guidance or precedents.
Excellent proficiency proven through assessment testing for computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to work independently with high degree of concentration and task focus.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
Certificates, Licenses or Registrations Valid Driver's License, Food Safety Training will be required after starting date.
This position requires satisfactory screening for criminal background and driving history.
Physical Demands While performing duties of this job, the employee is working in a mix of office or warehouse environments.
This job requires that weight be lifted or force be exerted up to
50
pounds when handling donations, documents and files.
Further, this position requires a safe and proficient working knowledge of forklifts, pallet jacks, and electric pallet jacks.
Fourteen paid holidays this calendar year (eligibility begins upon successful completion of sixty days)
One week awarded in PTO at the sixty‑day mark
Three weeks awarded in PTO at the one‑year mark
