Director of Engineering

EV.Careers, WorkFromHome, GA, United States

EV.Careers is currently seeking a full-time, fully remote Director of Engineering for one of our partners — a fast-growing construction technology company with a proven platform serving thousands of active users across the specialty trades. You will lead a founding engineering team tackling hard problems at the intersection of automation, AI, and spatial computing — taking innovative research and turning it into production-grade commercial software.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a lean engineering team while staying hands‑on across design, architecture, and implementation.
  • Lead applied algorithm research and development across multi-agent pathfinding and 3D spatial routing, as well as OCR-based data extraction from complex technical documents.
  • Drive the full lifecycle from concept to commercial product, maintaining high standards for stability, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Design and develop core features across multiple platforms and languages, balancing rapid innovation with clean, maintainable code.
  • Partner with executive leadership and technical stakeholders to guide architectural decisions and maintain a codebase that is robust, scalable, and built for long-term commercial success.
  • Lead by example – investing in your team's growth without stepping back from the technical work.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with an active record as an individual contributor, not just a manager
  • Proven expertise in multi-agent pathfinding and routing in 2D or 3D spatial environments.
  • Strong familiarity with OCR applications for real-world use cases, including digital document processing and computer vision, is highly desirable.
  • Strong academic or professional foundation in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Demonstrated history of taking commercial software products from concept to stable release — must have more than prototype-only experience.
  • Hands‑on C# coding ability paired with the architectural instincts to build complex, maintainable systems at scale.
  • Able to shift fluidly between team leadership and hands‑on technical contribution, including writing clean, production‑grade code.
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity, taking initiative, and driving toward clear goals in a fast‑paced, high‑performance environment.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for company off‑sites, typically a few times per year.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; H-1B sponsorship is not currently offered (exceptional candidates with visa requirements will be considered case‑by‑case)
  • Must pass a background check and I‑9 work authorization verification; no drug screen required
  • 401(k) with standard safe harbor match
  • Health insurance with individual coverage (adjusted based on location and family situation)
