Job Description EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

JOB SUMMARY:

The Executive Director of Elementary Education provides instructional and operational leadership, direction, and support for 13 elementary schools and the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program. The Executive Director of Elementary Education ensures the District’s commitment to equity is integrated into all facets of the elementary program.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Sustain and advance a commitment to District values, vision, goals and strategic plan.

Serve as a member of the Superintendent's Cabinet.

Provide instructional leadership, coaching and professional learning of elementary education and Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) principals to improve school performance and improve educational outcomes for students.

Hire, supervise and evaluate principals and directors.

Manage elementary schools in program development, operations and management, student social-emotional and behavioral needs, safety, and parent and family engagement.

Design and promote a coherent system of continuous learning and collaboration; use of qualitative and quantitative data to inform decisions and design choices in conjunction with all student programs at the elementary and early childhood education level.

Model and facilitate an inclusive culture that promotes the ongoing improvement of teaching and learning for students and staff of all backgrounds.

Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of data-driven district programs for the purpose of enhancing student achievement for all.

Partner with colleagues to ensure all curriculum, instruction and assessment efforts align to the district’s commitment to equity and are culturally responsive and relevant.

Lead system-wide efforts to support improvement of the district’s academic and well-being outcomes.

Contribute to the learning community of district administrators in the lessons and insights of emerging practices.

Advise and assist elementary education leaders in addressing state requirements, District initiatives, as well as community, parent, student and staff initiatives and concerns.

Provide oversight of elementary school programs to ensure coherent instructional systems, inclusive practices, tightly aligned MTSS structures, and strong student outcomes across assigned schools.

Develop leadership and instructional capacity through the coaching and performance evaluation of elementary school principals; ensuring effective implementation of district instructional priorities, including curriculum and MTSS initiatives; and driving the coherent execution of school improvement efforts aligned to the District Strategic Framework.

Serve on the labor management committee for collaboration and negotiations, and partner with the teachers’ union leadership.

Provide district oversight and professional learning to the building Deans.

Provide district oversight and professional learning to the elementary Deans.

Provide district oversight of the Teacher Librarians.

Manage and align staff and fiscal resources.

Implement and comply with federal and state laws, District policies and other guiding principles, and State Code of Professional Conduct.

Complete and submit reports/other information as required.

Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under contract.

Perform other duties of similar scope and function as may be assigned.

Knowledge of inclusionary best practices, including but not limited to universally designed leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess or be eligible for a Washington Administrator Certificate.

Possess or be eligible for a current Washington State teaching certificate.

Master’s degree or higher in educational administration and/or curriculum and instruction, or related field.

Minimum five years of experience as a principal and/or educational director or leader in a related field preferred.

Significant experience at scale in leading innovation, teaching, curriculum, professional development and assessment.

Significant experience in working through multiple layers of management in organizations to achieve results.

Experience teaching youth under the age of 21 and leading adult learning experiences.

Experience working directly with people from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, ability and socio-economic backgrounds.
