Hiring Wage Range: $16.80 -$21.00 / hourly DOQ

Summary Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Marketing & Communications, this position helps engage the community and build brand loyalty by performing as the Mundelein Park & Recreation District mascot, Mundy Lion, and/or as Mundy's supporting partner. The mascot serves as an easily recognizable District representative at District events, facilities, and programs, as well as at occasional community and business events. This position interacts with a wide range of audiences by posing for photos, appearing in videos, and communicating non-verbally while performing as Mundy and verbally while serving as the mascot partner. When performing as the mascot, the individual is responsible for properly wearing and maintaining the Mundy Lion costume. Must have the ability to work nights, weekends, and occasional daytime business hours.
Qualifications - Education, Experience, and Training Must be at least 16 years of age. Dance, drama, and/or experience that would lend well to working as a mascot, preferred but not required. Ability to follow directions. Must have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, endure changing weather conditions and temperatures, including high heat and humidity. The mascot costume is designed to fit people 5'8" to 6'1".
Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions
Preserve the identity of Mundy Lion without deviating from established character, including body language, mannerisms, attitude, interaction, and District representation. (while working as Mascot)
Assist the District mascot by guiding his/her steps, ensuring safety, talking with people, and assisting with communication between Mundy Lion and the public. (while working as Mascot Partner)
Assist Mundy Lion with the costume. (while working as Mascot Partner)
Interact with the public with enthusiasm, energy, and confidence.
Be photographed with the public.
Work well in a team environment.
Be able to read patron social cues to understand the level of interaction each person may want.
Represent the Park District in a positive manner
Work in coordination with all internal departments to reach overall strategic objectives of the District.
Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District's safety program.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
