Lead HVAC Installer — Performance-Based, Career Path to $100/hr
Bob Boldt HVAC has been doing residential heating and cooling in the south Twin Cities metro since 1988. Not because we're the biggest, but because we refuse to do work we're not proud of. Every installation we complete leaves behind a written performance report — airflow readings, system verification, and documented proof that the home is actually comfortable. We call this performance-based HVAC, and we're the only shop in our area that treats it as the standard, not the exception. We're hiring a Lead Installer. Not just someone who can hang equipment — someone who wants to be the last line of quality before that homeowner signs off. What this job actually is
You’ll be leading installations in occupied homes. That means early starts, physical work in tight spaces, and days where nothing goes as planned and you figure it out anyway. You’ll be on a slab in a mechanical room in August and in a crawl space in February. You’ll mentor helpers who don’t always move as fast as you’d like. You’ll talk to homeowners who are anxious about the disruption and need you to communicate clearly, not just technically. And before you leave every single jobsite, you’ll run the system, pull airflow readings, and complete a written performance report. Every time. No exceptions. That’s not bureaucracy — that’s the difference between what we do and what everyone else does. If that sounds like a grind, this isn't for you.
If that sounds like a standard you already hold yourself to, keep reading.
Who belongs here
We keep our word. When we say we’ll be somewhere at 9 am, we’re there at 9 am. When we quote a price, that’s the price. If that sounds obvious to you, you haven’t worked for every company. To us, it’s everything — it’s why homeowners in Dakota County have been calling us back since 1988. We don’t cut corners. Not on materials, not on labor, not on testing. A surgeon doesn’t skip the pre‑op checklist because the operation seems routine. We don’t either. If you’re the kind of installer who knows what a proper duct balance looks like and it bothers you when it’s wrong, you’ll fit here. We see the full picture. We’re not a “fix it and leave” shop. We look at the whole system, document what we find, and give homeowners real options. You’ll be the face of that on every job you lead. Pay and path
Starting:
$28–$34/hr (based on verified experience) Performing to standard:
$36–$45/hr Exceeding / Team Builder:
$48–$65/hr Senior / Top Performer:
$70–$100/hr What moves you up: clean performance reports, zero callbacks, homeowner satisfaction scores, and — when you’re ready — training and leading others. This is a career path, not a flat hourly rate. Why Bob Boldt
Company vehicle and gas card $500 tool allowance Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) 401(k) PTO Ongoing training and certification support A company with a 35-year track record in the community — and a clear plan for the next 10 Here’s what the hiring process looks like
Quick application (takes 5 minutes) 15‑minute phone screen — we’ll be direct about the role, you be direct about what you’re looking for A few written questions we’ll send by email — no trick questions, just real ones In‑person interview (about 45 minutes) A half‑day ride‑along so you can see how we actually work — and we can see how you actually work If you’ve read this far, you’re already different from most applicants.
