The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (MNCPPC), Prince George’s Department of Parks and Recreation, Natural & Historical Resources Division, Park Ranger Unit is seeking an energetic Seasonal

Event Support

Park Ranger conducting weekend event parking at various parks throughout the county.

This position requires:

Working up to 10 hours per day, with shifts scheduled at varying times between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m on Saturdays and/or Sundays.

Standing and directing traffic for long periods of time.

Must be able to work as a team and communicate effectively to achieve goals.

Ability to effectively use flags, wands and hand signals to manage vehicle and pedestrian traffic flow.

Can quickly react to unexpected situations up to and including identifying safety hazards and emergency vehicle responses.

Ability to communicate effectively with patrons and answer questions at events.

Wear issued uniforms and use equipment.

Proper radio usage and etiquette.

Requires working in all types of weather conditions. Including rain, snow, hot and cold weather.

Be certified in First Aid and CPR (Provided after accepting job offer)

This position pays at a rate of $15.63 – $20.63 per hour dependent on experience and qualifications.

Provide weekend support for department events and programs at various parks.

Maintain flow of traffic as parking support at MNCPPC events.

Setup and breakdown of traffic equipment including cones, A-frame signs and barricades.

Assist with setting up equipment, tents, tables, and chairs as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Highschool Diploma, GED or equivalent.

Experience dealing with the public and providing great customer service.

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Able to carry/lift up to 50 pounds.

Able to stand on your feet for long periods of time throughout each event.

Comfortable working outdoors in inclement weather.

Ability to work on a flexible weekend schedule including early mornings and evenings/nights.

Ability to drive your own vehicle to each event you are assigned.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications The preferred candidate will have customer service and/or event staff experience, a basic knowledge of natural resources and wildlife, and comfortable working in a fast-paced work environment. Related education or experience in customer service, event staffing, event planning, previous park ranger experience or park-related experience is preferred.

Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to perform driving duties required by the position.

A complete background investigation will be completed prior to hiring.

May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.

This position does not provide benefits.
