Overview of Position Under the direct supervision of an attorney, the Public Benefits Paralegal provides comprehensive legal services by performing specific legal functions on behalf of clients. The paralegal focuses on the application for and maintenance of low‑income benefits for vulnerable individuals who rely on such income for housing and living expenses. Additionally, the paralegal will assist with education cases and advocate for children in need of educational supports throughout Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Interview and counsel clients.

Provide limited services to clients, interfacing with outside counsel, internal clients, and customers.

Assist with research, reviewing medical and education records, drafting and filing briefs and complaints, and advocating at administrative hearings under the supervision of an attorney or Practice Group Director.

Work effectively as part of a team that includes attorneys, support staff, volunteers, and students.

Regularly participate in clinics and community outreach projects.

Create and maintain new matters in the case‑management system.

Perform other related duties as required.

Desired Education and Experience

Four (4) year college degree or Paralegal Certificate from an ABA‑accredited school.

One year of relevant legal experience.

Knowledge of legal terminology and document management.

Understanding of customer and personal service principles and processes.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Accurate typing skills with the ability to type 60 WPM.

Previous calendaring experience.

Flexibility to adapt and act quickly when urgent matters arise.

Self‑motivated, initiative‑driven, and quick learner.

Ability to read, write, and communicate in English; Spanish proficiency is a plus.
