The Charles Schwab Center for Financial Research (SCFR) is looking to hire a Head of Economic Research. This individual will lead the firm’s macroeconomic point of view, business cycle research and framework, and policy analysis across key markets and economies. This role is responsible for developing a forward-looking point of view on economic activity, inflation and policy, and for partnering with the rest of the SCFR Investment Research and Strategy team contributing key inputs and thought leadership to help shape SCFR’s comprehensive and consistent market strategy and portfolio views.
Core Responsibilities
Develop and maintain proprietary framework to form forward looking views on GDP, inflation, labor markets, policy rates, fiscal policy and recession probabilities across key global economies – monitoring central bank actions, liquidity conditions, financial conditions and systemic risk indicators
Lead business cycle and market regime monitoring research and dashboards, and regime identification framework partnering with research teams across SCFR and SAM (Schwab Asset Management)
Produce 6 to 12+ month baseline and scenarios for economic activity in key economies
Evaluate fiscal policy, monetary policy and geopolitical events and the impact on markets partnering with asset class researchers and strategists
Participate in asset allocation meetings and provide thought leadership on tactical and strategic portfolio views
Write regular economic insight reports analyzing economic activity and forward-looking scenarios for clients, financial consultants and advisors
Present the SCFR macroeconomic outlook in front of clients, financial consultants and advisors
Serve as spoke person in media interviews and industry panel discussions
What you have Required Qualifications
Advanced degree in economics, finance or a related field (PhD preferred)
10+ years of macroeconomic research experience
Clear framework for thinking about business cycles, policy and capital markets
Experience integrating a macroeconomic view consistently in portfolio implications
Strong communication skills – both written and for public speaking
In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
