Compliance Specialist – On-site or Hybrid in Schaumburg or Lisle, IL
American Commercial Bank & Trust is currently seeking candidates for a Compliance Specialist, which is an addition to staff in our Compliance function. This role supports our Bank's Compliance program by helping to ensure that we continue to operate in accordance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations and internal policies and procedures. This position contributes to compliance oversight across key consumer, commercial and operational areas of the Bank, performs compliance monitoring and testing, supports regulatory change management, and assists with compliance risk assessments, reporting, and examination readiness.
American Commercial Bank & Trust is looking for a detail-oriented compliance professional who has worked in a $2B-5B financial institution (bank or credit union) and is comfortable partnering with business lines to identify, measure, monitor and help mitigate compliance risk. Prior experience in support of CRA and Fair Lending programs is a plus.
Key job duties and responsibilities include the following:
Researches federal and state banking laws and regulations, to remain current on updates and interpretations, and assists with internal questions and resolve issues on compliance topics.
Reviews Bank policies, procedures, disclosures, and forms to ensure alignment with compliance requirements and internal standards.
Provides compliance guidance to business partners during product/process changes, including assisting with controls and documentation expectations consistent within the Bank's Compliance Program.
Conducts assigned compliance internal monitoring reviews according to the Compliance Department schedule; documents workpapers, findings and corrective action recommendations.
Assists in creating, maintaining, and enhancing internal compliance review programs and checklists for key processes, procedures, and applications within the operating areas of the bank.
Tests and analyzes data, processes, and documentation (including transaction/testing samples), to confirm compliance and accuracy; supports targeted reviews such as TRID-related documentation testing where applicable.
Participates in periodic compliance risk assessments and helps update compliance risk matrices, issue logs, and reporting packages.
May assist with elements of the CRA and Fair Lending programs, including data/exception review support, documentation, and remediation tracking.
Supports compliance training efforts (tracking, content refresh support, and/or delivery coordination) as part of ongoing Compliance Department requirements.
Prepares clear, timely reporting of monitoring results, trends, and recurring issues for the Compliance Officer and/or management committees; helps track remediation to closure.
Supports examination readiness activities (evidence collection, response drafting support, and documentation organization) consistent with a strong Compliance Program framework.
Serves as a contributing member on the Compliance Committee.
Partners with business units (Retail, Deposit Operations, Lending, Mortgage, Marketing, IT/Operations, etc.) to strengthen controls and compliance outcomes.
Occasional same-day travel between Ottawa, Lisle, and Schaumburg locations as needed.
Required Qualifications:
3-7 years of progressive banking/credit union compliance experience, preferable in a $2B-5B institution (or comparable complexity).
Working knowledge of key consumer compliance and operational regulations (e.g., deposit and lending regulations and related controls/testing expectations).
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk, Accounting, or related field (or equivalent relevant experience).
CRCM (or progress toward CRCM) strongly preferred; other relevant certifications also valued.
Experience supporting CRA/Fair Lending compliance activities.
Familiarity with TRID review/testing and/or consumer documentation testing.
Skills and Competencies:
Regulatory interpretation and practical application.
Monitoring/testing methodology and workpaper discipline.
Clear written communication (findings, memos, remediation tracking).
Strong organization, prioritization, and deadline management.
Professional judgment, confidentiality, and integrity.
