Scribner, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, is seeking an Editorial Assistant to support an Executive Editor and Senior Editor. Scribner publishes a distinguished list of literary fiction, narrative nonfiction, and award-winning authors. The Editorial Assistant will play an integral role in supporting editors through all stages of the publishing process.

Responsibilities

Provide administrative and editorial support, including tracking and reviewing manuscript submissions, writing reader reports, and corresponding with authors, agents, and internal departments.

Draft copy for covers and tip sheets and marketing materials.

Coordinate with production, marketing, publicity, and art to support book publication.

Maintain and update editorial schedules, title management systems, and project tracking documents.

Conduct research on competitive titles, market trends, and comparable authors.

Support editors in managing relationships with literary agents and authors.

Qualifications

Strong interest in literary publishing and existing knowledge of Scribner’s list.

Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, and to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Previous experience in book publishing or literary media preferred.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
