Job Description Digital and Social Content Manager

The digital and social content manager works in the office of communications and reports directly to the communications director. This individual is responsible for Wesleyan’s social media strategy, implementation, and analysis; reporting on social media metrics for Wesleyan School; and aligning digital content with the school's strategic initiatives to attract and retain students and faculty. This position requires creativity and the ability to work well with others in developing materials that support all school divisions. The digital and social content manager is an internal client-facing role and requires excellent client management skills. This is a year-round position.

Social Media

Capture, edit, and produce mobile-first photography and short-form videos that are shared as posts, stories, and reels that highlight the authentic Wesleyan experience across various social platforms.

Manage the school’s social media strategy across various social platforms.

Conduct and report on regularly scheduled analysis of activity and campaign performance to optimize future campaigns based on what is learned from this analysis.

Support and monitor secondary social media account managers on campus in content creation and social media best practices.

Provide support, as needed, on emergency updates on social media. This could include emergency updates and other time-sensitive notifications that could occur outside regular working hours.

Design social media graphics in alignment with Wesleyan's brand guidelines to support consistent and professional visual communication.

Write copy that is engaging to prospective families, students, employees, donors; current families, students, and employees; and alumni and their families.

Conduct stakeholder interviews to ensure content reflects people and programs with care and authenticity.

Maintain an organized digital asset library for future storytelling.

Develop a detailed content calendar to proactively plan content for Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Monitor social media design and content trends to ensure Wesleyan’s site remains current, user-friendly, and aligned with best practices in independent education web strategy.

Search Engine Marketing and Digital Advertising

Develop and execute a digital advertising plan including social media ads and Google ads.

Manage the annual digital advertising budget.

Conduct and report on regularly scheduled analysis of digital advertising analytics.

General Communications Tasks

Manage and maintain organized content libraries across Vimeo and Issuu platforms, ensuring easy access, consistent categorization, and up-to-date digital assets.

Work with the communications associate to support coverage for events to be featured on the website and/or social media posts.

Support recruitment and hiring efforts by updating job postings on the website, leveraging LinkedIn for candidate outreach, and managing targeted job ads on LinkedIn.

Write timely news stories highlighting campus events and happenings, ensuring consistent and engaging communication with the Wesleyan community.

Support the email communications team, as needed. This could include editing or providing emergency updates and other time-sensitive notifications that could occur outside regular working hours.

Utilize a project management approach to managing the planning for and fulfillment of external campaigns and internal client projects; use designated project management software as instructed.

Serve as an active, contributing member of the content team for internal clients on campus, and attend monthly check-in meetings for each client, as needed.

Assist with the organization, writing, photography, and editing of the bi-annual Wesleyan Magazine.

Actively build ongoing, up-to-date, and relevant expertise of digital marketing trends and best practices for the education industry.

Participate in the creation and execution of strategies to build and maintain a positive reputation online.

Aid the communications staff in monitoring the school’s editorial and graphic standards and policies.

Attend special events and school functions, often outside of school hours, as requested.

Actively participate in the life of the school both during the school day and outside of normal school hours.

Qualifications:

Wesleyan School is seeking applicants with strong written, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills who have a strong Christian faith. This individual should be a team player who is proactive and initiates a dialogue on fresh ideas. The candidate should have a positive attitude which encourages others and seeks ways to make the work environment a positive one. Candidates should exhibit strong editing skills and a keen eye for attention to detail. Direct experience managing a corporate social media presence is a must, and experience in independent school communications is a plus. A bachelor’s degree and at least three years of applicable work experience are required.
