Funeral Director / Embalmer
Location: Gilmer, TX Schedule: Onsite, Full-Time Pay: $25/hour Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced and compassionate Funeral Director / Embalmer to serve as the primary point of contact for client families while managing the full funeral and embalming process. This role is responsible for planning, preparation, and execution of funeral services, ensuring a seamless, respectful, and dignified experience for families while maintaining compliance with all regulations. Key Responsibilities
Consult with families or legal representatives to plan funeral and memorial services Present service and merchandise options to meet family preferences Complete required documentation including death certificates, permits, obituaries, and insurance forms Coordinate all service details with clergy, organizations, and participants Prepare and embalm the deceased in accordance with legal requirements and company standards Ensure all embalming documentation, permits, and logs are completed accurately and timely Utilize embalming equipment and PPE safely and in compliance with procedures Dress, apply cosmetics, and perform casketing duties Plan, schedule, and conduct visitations and funeral services Direct services and ensure smooth and professional execution Set up visitation and service areas according to family wishes Oversee transportation logistics and coordinate shipment of remains as needed Supervise team members and support apprentice Funeral Directors/Embalmers Maintain preparation room, equipment, and supplies Participate in on-call and first-call responsibilities as needed Identify and address safety concerns on site Perform additional duties as assigned These responsibilities reflect full ownership of both funeral service execution and embalming operations, including family interaction, preparation, and compliance. Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience as a licensed Funeral Director / Embalmer Valid Funeral Director and Embalmer licenses in good standing Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience Strong computer proficiency including Microsoft Office The role requires a licensed professional with experience managing both embalming and funeral service operations. Experience working in a high-touch, service-oriented environment Bilingual communication skills are a plus Experience supporting high-volume or multi-service locations Active involvement in community organizations is a plus The position values individuals who can provide exceptional service while contributing to community engagement and business growth. Additional Details
This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities Office and field-based environment including indoor and outdoor work Physical requirements include lifting up to 75–100 lbs and standing for extended periods Exposure to chemicals and biohazards with required safety protocols Ability to work on-call and respond outside of standard business hours Approximately 10% local travel may be required The role includes both technical embalming responsibilities and client-facing service duties requiring flexibility and professionalism.
