Our Catering & Convention Services Sales Manager will maximize revenues in meeting room, equipment rentals, and in banquet food and beverage sales. Coordinate events as assigned by the Director of Sales and Marketing and for local catered meetings and events. Maintain open communications with the Director of Sales and Marketing, Executive Chef, the Kitchen and Banquet Departments.

Must have 5 or more years of experience in the same or similar role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coordinate all meeting and banquet needs for own personal group bookings and those originating with the Room Sales Department as assigned. Personally meet with all accounts daily. Control use of inventory with Delphi to be able to achieve maximum revenues for each meeting room.

React to demand from local market by handling inquiries, site inspections, writing contracts, and finalizing bookings.

Attain or exceed monthly/budgeted revenues as outlined in the annual budget and catering marketing strategies.

Maintain current information on area market trends, competitor pricing and clientele, new business in the area, etc. Participate in the formulation of marketing and sales action plans. Participate in sales and catering meetings. Complete all daily and weekly reports, i.e. Sales weekly planning sheet, Call reports, sales activity reports, and any other report requested by the, Director of Sales or the Director of Operations weekly.

Participate in daily and weekly BEO meetings when appropriate. Attend Sales or Staff meetings.

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the Director of Sales.

OTHER

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by the hotel from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Team Members with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, Team Members may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.

Upon employment, all Team Members are required to fully comply with hotel rules and regulations for safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities. Team Members who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Possess considerable ability to communicate effectively with peers and management in solving the various issues encountered daily in the Sales and Catering Department and Banquet Department

Possess considerable sales and customer service skills.

Possess superb attention to details, notice inconsistencies and take corrective action when necessary.

Ability to coordinate and motivate catering support staff and banquet wait and service staff members.

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, often under high pressure and deadlines.

Ability to perform cold calls, solicit information, negotiate contracts, and close deals.

Ability to react quickly and decisively to changes in negotiations, time schedules, and market trends.

Ability to communicate in grammatically correct English in writing and verbally, telephonically, and face-to-face, with both internal and external guests.

Considerable knowledge of mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) to maintain various reports and estimated catering revenues and sales goals.

Demonstrate ability to understand the clients’ needs and present the hotel as the solution.

Visual ability to read instructions, correspondence, and to make outside visits to existing and potential clients.

Ability to grasp, lift, and/or carry or otherwise move goods weighing a minimum of 25 lbs.

Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

Ability to perform tasks that require bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching above the shoulders.

Ability to remain calm in emergency situations and to effectively deal with the internal and external guests; some of whom may require patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger, collect accurate information, and to solve their concerns.

Ability to apply technical knowledge of federal and state regulations to practical situations with the hospitality industry.

Ability to accomplish goals in a timely manner.

Ability to translate technical information into layman’s terms.

Ability to use finger/hand movements for extended periods of time. Finger and hand dexterity to manipulate switches, writing instruments, a computer keyboard, etc.

Basic knowledge of OSHA standards for chemical use and the ability to recognize and react to the incorrect usage of chemicals in accordance to OSHA laws.

Ability to perform duties and to concentrate in a high energy, often noisy, environment.

Ability to work in a 365 day environment and be on call 24 hours. Must work a minimum of 45 hours/ week.

Protect employer’s privacy and data; keep passwords safe.

Qualifications Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

2 or 4-year College Degree; degree in Business Administration or Hospitality Management preferred.

Experience

5 or more years or comparable experience in hospitality sales preferred.

One or more years’ experience in hotel management.

Hilton experience preferred.

Must have experience in writing and administrating sales contracts, BEO’s, resumes etc.

Columbus or equivalent city centric hotel experience preferred.

Delphi FDC / Salesforce experience preferred.

Grooming

All Team Members must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance according to the Olshan Properties Team Member Handbook.

Other

Additional language ability preferred.

Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger and collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
