
Senior Design Specialist - A (2D Electrical Designer)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Specialist A (2D Electrical Designer) to provide staff augmentation support for design development and generation of design output documents. This is a long-term contract opportunity supporting a large-scale, complex engineering environment. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate at their own expense.
Key Responsibilities
Develop designs for complex engineering systems and prepare drawings and technical reports
Provide primary design support in the following areas: Equipment Layout, Grounding, Raceway Layout, Lighting Systems, and Schematics, Connection and Wiring Diagrams
Prepare and review design standards, procedures, construction installation specifications, and details
Prepare procurement specifications and perform bid analysis
Review and approve Design Change Forms; resolve existing design discrepancies using the most cost-effective approach
Initiate and coordinate Design Change Forms with subcontractors or responsible groups for approval and incorporation
Provide dispositions to Nonconformance Reports and Field Problem Memos
Perform inspections of facilities, systems, or components as required
Review construction procedures to ensure compliance with design engineering criteria and applicable codes
Perform in-depth analyses of advanced technical concepts and develop new approaches to technical problems
Perform
weekly field walk downs
of the job site, which may include uneven terrain, walking distances over half a mile, climbing ladders, and wearing protective clothing
Participate in the development of design standards and procedures
Required Qualifications Education
Associate's degree in a technical discipline with 10–12 years of related work experience,
OR
12–16 years of practical work experience in lieu of degree
Formal training in Computer Aided Design is preferred
Experience & Skills
Minimum
8 years of experience as an Electrical Designer
Significant recent experience (within the last 5 years) with 2D MicroStation Computer Aided Drafting and Design

In-depth knowledge of engineering systems, applications, calculations, materials, and construction methods
Demonstrated working knowledge of national codes and standards for electrical design including:
IEC, NEC, NFPA, NEMA, IEEE, and OSHA
Ability to apply advanced engineering principles to resolve construction-related problems in a timely manner
Ability to produce quality documents with a high level of attention to detail
Commitment to staying current with new technologies and hardware in the industry
Security
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a
DOE "Q" Security Clearance
(an active clearance is not required at time of hire; the selected candidate will be notified when to apply based on work assignments)
Preferred Qualifications
Possession of an
active DOE L or Q clearance within the past 2 years
Previous DOE facility design engineering experience with familiarity of processes and procedures for providing engineering support
Additional Information
All rates are fully burdened and should include all costs outside of direct business travel
Business travel, if applicable, must be approved in advance; travel to conferences or training will not be reimbursed
Telework, if applicable, is approved at the hiring manager's discretion and can be revoked at any time
Overtime may be required at times to meet project deliverables
