Kitchen Steward - Stewarding- Seasonal

About the Role The Steward is responsible for cleaning, maintaining and organizing assigned work areas. We are looking for a Steward to clean our kitchen and support our cooking staff. This is an entry-level job but if you’re good at it, you’ll be invaluable in making sure our kitchen is always sanitized and tidy. Steward responsibilities include washing pots and pans, keeping floors clean, sanitizing food preparation areas and occasionally helping with food prep work. If you think you’ll enjoy the buzz of a busy kitchen, we’d like to meet you. Ultimately, you’ll help our kitchen adhere to health standards and service customers faster.

Position Responsibilities

Follow all Health Codes (State, Federal, and OSHA requirements) and company guidelines at assigned workstation

Work steadily and accurately, paying attention to detail in accordance with the Health Department codes and Departmental Policies

Performs all other related and compatible duties as assigned

Deep clean stoves and kitchen equipment according to procedures

Breakdown, feed, catch, and properly sort all dishes and flatware as it is brought to the dish area

Wash, sort, and store pots and pans in their designated location on proper racks

Wash walls, ceilings baseboards, floor drains, hand sinks, tables and cutting boards

Sweep and mop all floors

Transport garbage from all kitchen areas to trash receptacle and dumpster

Follow all cleaning schedules in designated areas (kitchen storerooms, walk‑ins and other designated assigned areas).

Clean and polish silver, flatware and brass in all areas as needed

Deep cleaning and strictly following cleaning procedures

Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory in this position

Essential Functions

This position utilizes strong chemicals and cleaners. The proper use, storage and disposal of these chemicals is mandatory

Physical Demands

Continuous standing and periodically walking for long periods of time; walking on different floor surfaces

Periodically pushing and pulling heavy carts and lifting products in proper storage areas

Constantly stooping, bending, reaching

Frequently lifting and carrying up to a maximum of 60 lbs. alone, occasionally pulling up to 200lbs. with a cart

Work Environment

Temperatures vary from hot to cold areas, occasionally exposed to steam and moisture

Days and hours may vary; all shifts may be required at times

Working with hot kitchen equipment and high heat

Exposed to sharp instruments, equipment blades, knives and specialized food preparation equipment

Requirements

A fast learner with an interest in kitchen work

The ability to stand for long hours

Willingness to adhere to health and safety rules

Good organizational skills

No prior kitchen experience required·

Must acquire knowledge of Stewarding-related products: china, glass, silverware, linen and cleaning chemicals

The ability to work unsupervised in a busy environment

Must be able to read, write and understand English
