The Content Writer helps bring Shatterproof’s mission to life through clear, accurate, and compelling written communications that are grounded in data and evidence. This role produces content across digital and print channels - including blogs, web pages, op-eds, and email - ensuring that every piece reflects the organization’s commitment to science-based solutions and public health best practices. The ideal candidate is a skilled, versatile writer who is comfortable translating complex research and data into accessible, engaging content for general audiences. They combine technical precision with storytelling flair and are passionate about using data to advance understanding, drive behavior change, and inspire action. Key Responsibilities

Writing & Content Development

Research, write, and edit content that clearly and accurately conveys evidence-based information related to addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery. Write and edit compelling fundraising and conversion-focused copy - including emails, donation landing pages, and campaign materials - that inspire engagement and drive giving. Produce blogs, op-eds, press statements, and web copy that advance Shatterproof’s mission, campaigns, and thought leadership while supporting organizational revenue and awareness goals. Support the drafting of email and newsletter copy that communicates impact and drives engagement or donations. Translate data and research findings from reports, studies, and internal resources into digestible, human-centered narratives. Collaborate with the Policy, Programs, and Digital teams to ensure all content reflects current data, science, and public health insights. Fact-check, proofread, and verify sources to ensure all content is accurate, credible, and consistent with Shatterproof’s tone and messaging. Collaborate with program and policy teams to keep all data and research references on Shatterproof.org current and evidence-based, ensuring accuracy, proper sourcing, and consistency with the latest national datasets (e.g., CDC, SAMHSA, NIH). Work with the Graphic Designer to develop data visualizations and infographics that enhance clarity and storytelling. Adapt complex material for multiple audiences - from policymakers and journalists to parents and corporate partners. Experience publishing and editing web content using a content management system (preferably WordPress), including posting blogs, updating existing pages, and supporting routine website content maintenance. Collaboration & Strategy

Support the Director of Content Strategy in implementing and maintaining an editorial calendar that aligns with key campaigns, reports, and events. Contribute to reactive content tied to breaking news, new research, or major public health moments. Partner with the Social Marketing Strategist and Senior Manager of Direct Response to craft cohesive copy for social and direct response channels that translates effectively across platforms. Collaborate cross-functionally with internal subject-matter experts to strengthen accuracy and ensure alignment with evidence-based messaging. Qualifications

3–5 years’ experience in writing, journalism, public health communications, or content development. Demonstrated ability to translate data and technical information into engaging, accessible content for broad audiences. Strong understanding of public health, behavioral health, or addiction-related topics preferred. Demonstrated experience writing fundraising and donor engagement copy, including email campaigns, web forms, and other direct response materials. Exceptional writing, editing, and fact-checking skills with an emphasis on accuracy and clarity. Comfortable synthesizing research, statistics, and scientific language into compelling narratives. Experience producing content across a range of formats - including blogs, op-eds, email, and web copy. Familiarity with SEO best practices, AP Style, and plain-language writing principles. Proficiency with content management systems (WordPress, HubSpot, or similar). Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Collaborative team player with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach. Preferred Skills

Background in public health, journalism, or health policy communications. Experience with data visualization tools or working alongside design teams to present data visually. Knowledge of social media content adaptation. Familiarity with federal health data sources (CDC, SAMHSA, NIH) and standard citation practices.
