Sr Mobile Inspector
A Sr. Mobile Inspector functions as an advanced member of the Manheim mobile inspections team for a designated region. The primary responsibilities include conducting vehicle condition inspections on client lots, providing accurate and complete documentation of overall vehicle condition within the parameters of a Manheim inspection, building trust with clients, engaging them to see the value in the Manheim Marketplace, and requesting additional inventory inspections by delivering quality and timely inspections.
The role requires working with little guidance, solving problems with minimal oversight, and assisting junior inspectors as they gain experience and build client relationships.
Primary Duties & Key Responsibilities
Conduct a thorough vehicle inspection at an expert level.
Locate, start, move, inspect, and return vehicles on dealer/clients' lots safely.
Verify vehicle identification and enter accurate vehicle information into the inspection system, correcting VIN, mileage, and sub series.
Inspect vehicle equipment and options, documenting results including damage, missing or inoperable items.
Inspect and record vehicle exterior condition, including but not limited to tires, frame, glass, panels, and mechanical components.
Inspect and record the vehicle interior condition, including but not limited to seats, dashboard, and options.
Perform basic mechanical checks on vehicles including powertrain, drivetrain, and electrical components.
Assist lower-level mobile inspectors in navigating complex inspections and client relationships.
Prepare and provide daily activity reports for management.
Pivot and adapt to changes in daily appointments to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of each dealer visit.
Develop strong knowledge of clients in the territory and work closely with partners to keep them active with Manheim mobile inspections through regular, proactive on‑lot engagement.
Receive data and insights from partners and leverage them to maximize the volume of units inspected on dealer lots.
Represent Cox Automotive as a brand ambassador, providing a premier client experience by interfacing regularly with core clients and ensuring satisfaction.
Act as a solid team player, working closely with the Wholesale Specialist team, peers, other Manheim workgroups, and auctions.
Utilize SalesForce.com for reporting, lead input, and customer performance reviews.
Understand NAAA Frame/Structure Damage Policy.
Work in a continuous improvement/Lean environment and be encouraged to drive a lean culture.
Maintain production expectations set by the leader.
Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling related behaviors. Actively participate in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience, Specialist Knowledge, and Skills
High School Diploma/GED and 5+ years of experience.
Previous vehicle inspection experience and automotive knowledge (body and mechanical) is required.
2–3 years of any automotive-related experience is strongly preferred.
1 year of service with Manheim Inspections is recommended.
Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
Travel 100% – reliable transportation required. Reimbursement program depends on miles driven.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong technical aptitude.
Detail‑oriented.
Experience navigating handheld and other documentation devices is preferred.
Motivated to work independently with remote supervision.
Ability to multitask, follow directions, and take instruction.
Knowledge of body, paint, and mechanical repair helpful.
Familiarity with unibody and full‑frame vehicles helpful.
Ability to lift and hold at least 30 lbs. at waist level for an extended period.
Required to stand, walk, talk, and hear regularly; frequently required to crouch, bend, and kneel, lift hoods or trunks, and reach inside or underneath vehicles.
Near vision required to detect dings, scratches, paint work, hail damage, frame/unibody, and interior damage; able to identify exterior or interior colors.
Ability to deal with different lighting conditions (exterior and interior, natural and artificial).
Requires physical and mental acuity to execute duties successfully within required timeframes to meet business requirements.
USD 18.17 – 27.31 per hour
Compensation Hourly pay rate is in the range of $18.17 – $27.31 per hour. The hourly base rate may vary within this range based on factors such as the ultimate location and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. The position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.
Benefits Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
