Position Details Brooklyn College is soliciting applications for a Financial Aid Advisor. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid Advisement, the Financial Aid Advisor plays a crucial role within the Division of Student Financial Services in assisting current and prospective students and families in understanding how to finance their education at Brooklyn College. Responsibilities include guiding students through financial aid appeal processes, determining financial aid eligibility, and problem solving to help students access financial aid resources available to them.

Duties In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Financial Aid Advisor’s duties include but are not limited to the following:

Provide advisement to students about federal and state financial aid eligibility criteria and program requirements.

Perform Title IV verification and conflicting information resolution for students such as income and identity verification, citizenship/immigration status verification, confirmation of first‑degree completion, etc.

Exercise professional judgment for Federal Student Financial Aid special and unusual circumstances, homeless youth and parent FAFSA refusal appeals.

Use multiple systems such as CUNYfirst, ProEd Solutions, Dynamic Forms and Navigate 360 to ensure compliance with aid programs, establish aid eligibility and manage timely communications.

Participate in training sessions, seminars, and other professional development activities.

May represent the Student Financial Services division at on‑ or off‑campus financial aid events.

Occasional evening and weekend work as assigned.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Bachelor's Degree required.

Preferred Qualifications

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Exceptional organization skills, attention to detail.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Related experience in financial aid, admissions, bursar, registrar or other student service office.

Experience with CUNYfirst (PeopleSoft).

Experience working to support and guide students.

Master’s Degree preferred.

CUNY Title Overview

Verifies eligibility for Federal and State financial aid programs including grants, scholarships, and guaranteed student loans.

Performs application intake, evaluation, processing and awarding.

Assists in the production of Financial Aid online, print material, and websites.

Advises students on good academic standing requirements and the appeal process; reviews appeals for dependency overrides and budget adjustments.

Conducts group workshops and represents the financial aid office at various on‑ and off‑campus events.

Serves as a liaison between the college office and Direct Loan Providers.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

FLSA Non‑exempt

Compensation And Benefits $50,000 – $54,725; salary commensurate with education and experience.
