Medicaid Benefit Specialist I The DuPage County Health Department is seeking a Medicaid Benefit Specialist I. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting clients in obtaining insurance or other public health benefits including filing complex applications for insurance and helping clients navigate public benefits and health insurance.

This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM at our Public Health Department located in Addison, IL. We seek a bilingual, English/Spanish candidate that is passionate about helping the residents of DuPage County. The starting pay for this position is $15.77 per hour; however, Salary may increase based on experience. This position offers a $3,000.00 annual stipend for passing our bilingual proctor test.

This Full-Time position offers a full DuPage County benefit package which includes 12 paid holidays, 12 days of paid vacation per year, paid sick time, paid personal time off and 12 weeks of paid parental leave. This is also a pension eligible position and offers eligibility for the Federal Student Loan Forgiveness Program as well as tuition reimbursement.

Responsibilities

Meets with clients to assess and determine eligibility and facilitate application for public benefits and other benefits and resources.

Completes and files basic applications for health care coverage or other financial support for health-supporting program access, such as for Medicaid, local access to care programs, and food assistance programs.

Follows individual client application status through to resolution and communicates outcome with client.

Works in various settings including public health centers and the community.

Represents the DuPage County Health Department at community events.

Collects sensitive information from clients and conducts client income assessments during face-to-face visits.

Provides basic, culturally competent, education on common health insurance topics, including explanation of co-pays, coinsurance, premiums, deductibles, and payment options and minimum payments.

Conducts telephone outreach to clients to discuss coverage options and schedules follow-up.

Refers clients to community-based resources or other Health Department services as necessary.

Demonstrates the ability to work within multiple electronic systems in order to respond to client needs.

Performs concurrent documentation as necessary and adheres to established productivity expectations.

Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to patient privacy laws and demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of other ethnic groups and cultures.

Participates in emergency response activities as assigned.

Qualifications Completion of some college coursework and three years of customer service within a health care setting which included experience with health insurance and/or healthcare billing and patient access or patient accounts. Bilingual in English/Spanish required. The ability to become a Certified Application Counselor with the Illinois Department of Insurance is required. The ability to complete certification training for SHIP (Senior Health Insurance Program) and/or Community Health Worker.
