Copywriter

Bonfire Legends, Layton, UT, United States

The Short Version We're a marketing agency looking for a copywriter who actually knows how to write.

Not someone who pastes a prompt into ChatGPT and calls it a day. A real writer — someone who's studied the craft, understands why certain words make people act, and can write copy that moves the needle for our clients.

If names like Gary Halbert, Eugene Schwartz, David Ogilvy, Claude Hopkins, Joe Sugarman, or Dan Kennedy mean something to you — keep reading. If you've never heard of any of them, this probably isn't the right fit.

Responsibilities What You'll Be Doing You'll write across multiple clients, but your primary account is a nationally recognized professional skincare brand with a 25+ year history in circadian rhythm-based science. Think clinical credibility meets emotional storytelling — written for licensed estheticians who know their stuff.

Day to day, you'll work on:

Email campaigns

— product launches, promotional sequences, educational drips, welcome series

Landing pages

— conversion-focused pages for events, products, programs, and lead gen

Ad copy

— Meta ads, paid social, direct response campaigns

Blog content

— SEO-driven articles that educate and sell without sounding like a textbook

Sales pages

— long-form and short-form, benefit-driven, built to convert

Brand storytelling

— helping clients articulate who they are in a way that actually resonates

You'll also write for other clients across different industries — HVAC, pool cues, financial services, food products, and more. Variety is part of the gig.

Who You Are You have the fundamentals.

5+ years writing copy professionally. You understand headline mechanics, the difference between features and benefits, market awareness stages, and why "Unlock your potential" is garbage copy. You can write at a 5th-grade reading level without dumbing down the ideas.

You're classically trained.

You've read the books. You've studied the greats. You understand direct response principles — not because someone told you to, but because you were curious enough to go find them. You know that great copy isn't about being clever — it's about being clear, specific, and emotionally resonant.

You know how to use AI — and you know its limits.

AI is part of the workflow. We use it. We expect you to use it. But here's the thing — AI produces average copy at scale. We need someone who can make it better. Someone who can direct it, edit it, refine it, and know when to throw it out and write from scratch. If your main skill is prompting and you'd struggle to write a compelling email without AI assistance, this isn't the role.

You're an excellent communicator.

You can take a vague brief and ask the right questions. You can present your work and explain your thinking. You can take feedback without ego and turn revisions around fast. You write clean first drafts because you actually think before you type.

You can write for B2B without being boring.

A lot of our work is business-to-business — estheticians, spa owners, professionals. But B2B doesn't mean stiff, corporate, or lifeless. You know how to write with authority and personality at the same time.

Qualifications Requirements

5+ years of professional copywriting experience (agency, in-house, or freelance with real clients)

Portfolio that demonstrates range — emails, landing pages, ads, long-form

Strong understanding of direct response copywriting principles

Experience writing for email marketing platforms (Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, etc.)

Proven ability to write conversion-focused copy, not just "brand awareness" fluff

Comfortable working across multiple clients and industries simultaneously

Excellent grammar, punctuation, and attention to detail (seriously — typos in your application are a dealbreaker)

Bonus Points

Experience in skincare, beauty, health/wellness, or professional services

Familiarity with Shopify, SEO content strategy, or ecommerce copywriting

You can point to copy you've written that drove measurable results (conversions, revenue, engagement)

You've written for audiences who are experts in their field (not just general consumers)
