
Purchasing Agent - Capital Acquisitions

PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Corp Purchasing Agent supports the department with all major capital and maintenance procurements including cost reduction activities, negotiations, sourcing, recommending and selecting vendors as well as working with field locations to achieve cost reductions.
Responsibilities And Tasks
Partner with corporate management, field processing, feed mill, and hatchery management to identify and implement opportunities to achieve cost reductions and project deliverables
Review vendor proposals, current pricing, etc. and identify areas for cost savings and negotiate pricing to get the best possible pricing for quality goods
Source and evaluate potential suppliers recommending best options to leadership
Prepare and issue purchase orders, formal contract documents and any needed revisions
Source new vendors, identify capabilities and create technical RFQ documents; proposal review and risk analyses as needed
Coordinate with operations, engineering, maintenance, etc. to schedule remote inspections, onsite visits and or/ installations
Manage execution of contracts in conjunction with various team (Operations, Engineering, Accounting, and local Purchasing dept) to ensure contract conditions are met
Perform additional relevant duties as assigned
Supervisor Responsibilities
None. This is an individual contributor role with required competencies: Functional/Technical Skills, Action Oriented, Problem Solving, Learning on the Fly, and Interpersonal Savvy
Education And Certifications
High School diploma or equivalent; degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or other relevant discipline preferred
APICS or ISM Certification (C.P.M. or CPSM)
Experience And Skills
Minimum two (2) years in capital procurement; additional purchasing/ procurement experience preferred
Related work experience in a manufacturing environment; experience in poultry preferred
Math competency in Algebra needed; Pre-Calculus preferred
Skilled in computer applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
Demonstrated ability to source suppliers and successfully negotiate contracts
Demonstrated leadership with the ability to influence leaders’ decision in reference to procurements
Ability to research and understand contract law
Ability to communicate (both written and verbal) to all levels of the organization and ability to communicate issues and resolve in an effective and efficient manner
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail
Safety Requirements
Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods utilizing office equipment and/ or computers in an open area office space
Ability to conduct site visits and tours of poultry processing, feed mill, hatchery, and supplier facilities
May occasionally lift up to 20 lbs
