
LEAD RECREATION SPECIALIST ( Recreation Specialist II ) - Range 8 / AMEA

Employment Details Seasonal Position:
This position will last approximately six (6) months from the date of hire.
Employees hired or rehired begin at the entrance pay step; advancement is by successive steps.
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work per P&P 40-40.
Responsibilities Under supervision, the Lead Recreation Specialist leads entry-level facility staff. The role delivers recreation activities and events, monitors participant behavior, and maintains a clean facility. This position is distinguished from that of Recreation Specialist I by the degree of accountability in the work and greater latitude in the exercise of independent judgment concerning assigned duties. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and at least one (1) year of experience in the program or activity under consideration. Prior experience in the use of recreational equipment is required.
Certifications and Licenses
American Red Cross First Aid Certification and American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or equivalent at time of hire.
A valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record at time of hire.
All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
Employee Preference and EEO Preference will be given to AMEA employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.
Military Service Interview Preference: Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach documentation of honorable discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference must attach proof of current service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
