NRC Compliance Specialist Position Overview Responsible for the administration of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Security Compliance Program. Program elements include physical security, security monitoring, access control, and communication systems; security systems testing and maintenance, Fitness for Duty and Human Reliability programs, and Security Procedure updates. The NRC Compliance Coordinator assists the Compliance Unit Manager with ensuring NFS maintains compliance with all applicable NRC regulations and orders.
Location On‑site in Erwin, Tennessee.
Your Day To Day As a NRC Compliance Specialist
Ensure strict compliance with applicable NRC regulations, Orders, and Security Procedures.
Provide technical assistance to Security Management.
Maintain and update NRC approved Physical Security and Contingency Plans as well as site security procedures to ensure strict compliance with all applicable NRC regulations and orders.
Maintain all required documentation and support NRC inspections and internal audits relating to the Physical Protection Plan, Safeguards Contingency Plan, Local Law Enforcement Emergency Response Plan, Safeguards Procedures, and applicable NRC regulations and Orders.
Maintain required weekly, quarterly, and annual alarm testing documentation.
Maintain required recurring compliance tasks.
Assist in maintaining Security Post Orders; update, revise, and create new Post Orders as needed.
Provide oversight of NRC Safeguard Event Reporting requirements as stated in Title 10 Code of Federal Regulations Part 73 Appendix G.
Draft all required reports; maintain detailed records and program metrics for review by management and NRC personnel.
Responsible for impact evaluations of new and revised requirements proposed by the NRC, and the preparation and submittal of impact evaluation comments.
Responsible for program planning to include analysis and implementation of security upgrades required in response to regulatory changes in site physical protection.
Responsible for the implementation of security regulatory licensing requirements, internal audits, and NRC inspections.
Responsible for responding to self‑identified deficiencies and NRC notices of violation, and the implementation of effective corrective actions to ensure compliance and prevent recurrence.
Evaluate Safety Evaluation Request (SERs) to establish and implement security requirements for facility and process modifications and provide change management oversight within the Security department.
Provide technical assistance and work closely with the NRC Compliance Unit Manager on security related projects.
Provides oversight of the timeliness of procedure updates.
Oversees the activities for development, review and processing of new and established written security procedures.
Execute additional security related projects and work as assigned by the NRC Security Unit Manager or NRC Compliance Coordinator.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred or 8 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree.
Two years’ experience in related field (police, military, security).
Experience in a security related field is required to demonstrate the ability to apply technical and tactical security in a Category I nuclear environment.

Salary BWXT Salary Grade: 6.1
Pay: $65,000 – $103,000 per year. The base salary is based on local job‑market factors and may vary depending on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective considerations. The total compensation package may include a cash incentive, medical, retirement, and other benefits.
