Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Affairs/Public Relations, Political Science, Public/Business Administration, Research, or a related field. Experience
Minimum of 4 years of experience in communication, marketing, research, transit management, or public affairs/public relations that includes: Strong, demonstrated technology experience in web content, social media, video production, and mobile web applications. Impeccable writing skills. Experience creating and delivering clear, concise messages that consider strategic priorities. Certification/Licensure

The Social Content Specialist is a next-generation content creation professional, responsible for managing and creating high-quality digital content to tell Metro's story to a broad external audience across multiple communication channels. The incumbent supports the department's overall digital strategy, recommending tools and processes by identifying emerging digital and journalism trends. The incumbent leads the implementation of all initiatives managed by the Manager of Digital Content. The incumbent operates on a rotational on-call (24/7) schedule to respond to emergencies, as needed, and manages confidential and sensitive matters with discretion and confidentiality. The incumbent calls on creativity and the astute understanding of Metro's Strategic Transformation Plan to ensure messaging advances all STP priorities of Service Excellence, Talented Team, Regional Opportunity and Partnership, and Sustainability. Job Duties
Supports the creation and accuracy of all external-facing digital communications channels, including but not limited to social media, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) website, email and text message notifications, mobile application information, and video. Monitors social media using a variety of tools to provide real-time intelligence to assist in managing Metro's response to incidents or latest emerging trends. Engages with regional partners on social media opportunities to highlight and elevate messaging that brings public awareness to Metro-related news, initiatives, milestones, service exceptions and events. Provides support and assistance to the Manager of Digital Content for assigned functions. Researches and coordinates responses on topics receiving extensive, high-profile attention, often confidential in nature. Maintains a content calendar that looks at short term and long-term planning (30-60-90+ days) of impending milestones for public communication, which involves tracking events, accomplishments, anniversaries, and strategic initiatives. Develops and publishes content for owned channels, including promotion of Metro News, initiatives and partnerships, as well as ensuring that content is fresh, relevant and up-to-date. Supports the digital content needs of internal stakeholders such as employee communications, marketing, community relations, government affairs, Metro Transit Police, etc.; documents media relations activities such as photo opportunities, press conferences, interviews, and roundtable discussions. Engages on social media to bring public awareness to Metro-related news, initiatives, milestones, service exceptions, and events. Actively monitors operations using a variety of internal tools, as well as social media, to provide real-time intelligence to assist in managing Metro's response to incidents and to craft customer messaging. Understands social media insights around defined metrics like engagement, popularity, trending, and sentiment. Leads and participates on various internal and external committees and task forces, building and maintaining effective working relations to ensure interdepartmental cooperation, coordination, and productive, mutually beneficial interface with external public and private entities and individuals. Produces quick-turn infographics and content through use of software like Canva, Adobe Express, Adobe Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro, iMovie, etc., that fully showcases complete storytelling ideas and executions. Maintains and promotes awareness and accountability with safety policies and procedures while performing job functions. Promotes a positive safety culture and encourages reporting of safety concerns consistent with our Agency Safety Plan, other regulatory requirements within the Safety Management System and just culture principles.
