Job Summary The Senior Designer will originate, design, and specify creative, functional, and sustainable solutions for client projects while residing in the DC office. Responsibilities include programming, space planning, finish palettes, drawings, specifications, and field verification. The role collaborates closely with Account Executives, Clients, and Customer Support Teams to deliver high‑quality outcomes and to foster continual improvement within the design team.

Responsibilities

Project Definition and Planning

– Lead and facilitate project meetings; establish clear expectations (scope, deliverables, timeline, roles); present design solutions; negotiate details aligned with proven practices and client requirements.

Design Process Execution

– Independently manage complex, high‑profile projects; develop schematic designs from programming; prepare cost estimates and resource needs; maintain documentation and schedules; promote information sharing to enhance productivity.

Design Consultation and Collaboration

– Engage clients in real‑time to agree on design intent; create drawings, renderings, and other deliverables; advise on building codes, ADA, technology integration, and ergonomics; coordinate changes and field reviews; keep project documentation current.

Customer Service

– Serve as an industry expert; maintain professionalism; communicate transparently with clients and vendors; adapt to project and client needs; leverage past interactions to improve service.

People and Culture Development

– Act as a peer coach; support organizational culture; build inclusive relationships; drive continuous learning and improvement; support team growth.

Qualifications – Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in interior design, architecture, or related field.

5+ years of experience in contract design and/or a furniture dealership or construction environment.

Strong specification and layout skills for systems, furniture, partitions, and construction processes.

Knowledge of workplace issues (ergonomics, technology integration, planning) and building codes (ADA, Electrical Code).

High proficiency with AutoCAD, CAP Studio or Project Matrix, Configura CET, and strong graphic layout skills.

Proven track record in customer‑facing settings and handling complex, high‑volume projects.

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and proficiency in Microsoft Office365.

Preferred

College degree in interior design, architecture, or a CIDA‑accredited program.

NCIDQ or state certifications.

Active membership in relevant professional associations.
