Role Overview: The
Real Estate Leasing Attorney
plays a central role in supporting the legal execution of complex commercial leasing activity within a large, multi-tenant real estate portfolio. This position partners closely with leasing leadership, executive stakeholders, and internal teams to structure, negotiate, and finalize a high volume of lease agreements and related real estate documents.
This role requires a professional who is comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment, balancing multiple negotiations simultaneously, and exercising strong legal judgment across retail leasing, tenant relations, and broader real estate transactions. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in
commercial retail leasing , strong contract negotiation skills, and the ability to act as a trusted legal advisor across the organization.
Job Requirements: Juris Doctor (J.D.)
with
3–7 years of experience
practicing
commercial real estate law. Proven experience
drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial and retail leases. Strong working knowledge of
multi-tenant retail environments , including lease structures, restrictions, and exclusives. Hands-on experience with
lease amendments, estoppels, SNDAs, waivers, and termination agreements . Familiarity with
commercial real estate financing documents
is a plus. Strong
contract negotiation, legal analysis, and judgment
skills. Ability to manage
multiple active deals simultaneously
in a fast-paced environment. Effective written and verbal
communication skills
with internal and external stakeholders. Proficient in
Microsoft Office
and standard legal documentation systems.
Key Responsibilities: Lead Lease Negotiations:
Draft, negotiate, and revise commercial leases, amendments, estoppels, subordination agreements, waivers, and termination documents with tenants, brokers, and external counsel. Partner with Leasing Teams:
Support leasing professionals throughout the deal lifecycle, including review of LOIs, proposed terms, tenant restrictions, and deal structures. Manage Lease Documentation:
Maintain accurate lease abstracts, summaries, key dates, exclusives, restrictions, and compliance obligations to ensure operational alignment and risk mitigation. Oversee Deal Execution:
Coordinate approvals, collect internal inputs and exhibits, track deadlines, and ensure timely execution and post-closing follow-up. Handle Tenant Matters:
Provide legal support related to tenant disputes, defaults, collections, insurance claims, and litigation coordination. Negotiate Ancillary Agreements:
Draft and review real estate-related contracts, including financing documents, loan agreements, purchase and sale agreements, construction contracts, consulting agreements, and service agreements. Advise Internal Stakeholders:
Serve as a legal advisor to leadership and internal departments on lease obligations, risk exposure, and compliance considerations. Support Site & Deal Activity:
Participate in lease negotiations and site meetings as needed to support deal execution and stakeholder alignment. Ensure Legal Compliance:
Maintain consistency with internal standards, legal requirements, and long-term asset strategy across all leasing activity. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
