Job Summary: Reviews a patient's medical records after a visit or procedure to translate information into appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes that insurers use to process claims.
Required Skills & Experience:
Proficient knowledge in medical terminology, coding, hospital policies, and government regulations.
Strong communication and active listening skills to interact with diverse staff and functions.
Problem-solving abilities for both straightforward and complex coding concerns.
Ability to handle conflicts calmly and professionally in stressful situations.
High attention to detail to accurately identify coding and billing errors.
Strong organizational and time management skills to meet productivity expectations.
Adaptability to evolving responsibilities and changing workflows.
Ability to work independently and proactively with minimal supervision.
Team player with a collaborative mindset.
Proficiency with personal computer applications including databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
Understanding of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology.
Must maintain credentials throughout employment.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
At least 1 year of ICD-10 coding experience.
1 year of experience in the medical field.
Certifications & Licensure:
Required:
Level I RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or CCA at the time of hire or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
