A Day in the Life of the Union Superintendent In this role, you’ll lead field operations for structural steel erection projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. You’ll collaborate with project managers, foremen, and general contractors to keep projects on schedule and within budget. Your leadership will directly impact team performance, job site culture, and overall project success.

Responsibilities include: Collaborate with project leadership to develop erection plans, including sequencing, deliveries, crane usage, and bracing Maintain a deep understanding of project plans and ensure field teams are aligned Attend daily all-hands and required GC meetings Oversee and ensure accuracy of all project reporting (daily reports, schedules, dashboards, equipment tracking) Lead safety efforts, enforce company policies, and conduct regular audits and site walks Ensure adherence to quality control standards and verify workmanship on-site Monitor production goals and drive progress to meet or exceed schedules Oversee job costs, including invoices and overall spending Act as a liaison between field teams, office staff, and general contractors Train and mentor foremen and crew leads, empowering decision-making and accountability Plan daily and proactively address upcoming project needs and challenges Manage drawing updates and ensure field crews have the latest information Coordinate closely with GC requirements and expectations Conduct QA/QC audits and promote “do it right the first time” execution Resolve day-to-day job site issues efficiently and professionally Provide performance feedback, recognition, and leadership to maintain strong team morale Build and maintain strong relationships with union leadership

Requirements and Qualifications: Proven experience as a Superintendent in construction, working in structural steel or related field Strong experience working with union crews or union leadership Leadership experience with keeping crews of 40–70 people organized and productive on a job site Solid understanding of safety regulations, QA/QC processes, and job site best practices Strong experience with pre-engineered metal buildings, insulated metal panels, or metal roofing systems Comfortable traveling full-time to job sites Ability to lead by example with integrity, accountability, and professionalism Comfortable working onsite and managing fast-paced project environments
