Botanical Garden of the Piedmont is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Development and Marketing Manager. The ideal candidate will have a passion for our mission, and a proven track record in fundraising and marketing, to support a critical period of growth as the Garden advances a major capital campaign and prepares for construction. This role divides time between development and marketing management, ensuring that donor engagement, communications, and internal systems operate smoothly and professionally.

Job Duties This position reports to the Executive Director but works closely with both the Capital Campaign Director (CCD) and Director of Development (DoD), serving as a key connector between fundraising, communications, and external partners.
Development (60%)
Donor Data & Gift Processing Enter, update, and maintain accurate donor records in the donor database, including gifts, pledges, contact reports, relationships, and key attributes
Process gifts and pledges accurately and in a timely manner
Prepare and manage donor lists for mailings, events, and stewardship activities
Support data hygiene efforts to ensure donor records are complete, current, and reliable
Implement strategies of membership, annual fund, and other special initiatives.
Acknowledgements & Stewardship Produce timely and accurate gift acknowledgements, including tax receipts, personalized thank you letters, and pledge documentation
Assist with stewardship efforts for major donors, including preparation of briefing materials, updates, and recognition tracking
Major Gifts & Campaign Support Provide logistical and administrative support for the capital campaign and major gift efforts
Assist with planning and execution of Garden donor events
Coordinate special tours of the Garden for donors and prospects, including scheduling, materials preparation, and follow up
Assist with planning and execution of major donor briefings
Support prospect tracking and next step documentation in collaboration with the Capital Campaign Director
Marketing & Communications (40%)
Project Management Serve as the internal project manager for marketing and communications deliverables, keeping timelines, tasks, and approvals on track
Coordinate with external graphic designers, printers, photographers, and other vendors to ensure materials are produced accurately, on schedule, and within budget
Manage version control, deadlines, and approvals for print and digital materials
Support with execution of major Garden events
Content Coordination Collect, organize, and draft content for the monthly electronic newsletter and social media, working with staff across the organization
Compile and manage content for printed newsletters, brochures, invitations, and donor materials
Assist with basic copyediting and proofreading to ensure clarity, consistency, and accuracy
Work with the Executive Assistant to use metrics to guide the development of BGP website as well as social media presence into a community engagement and information resource
Skills Required At least 2 years of experience in development, marketing, or a related nonprofit field
Experience using a donor database for data entry, gift processing, and record management
Strong preference for experience with Raiser’s Edge or Raiser’s Edge NXT and Constant Contact
Strong project management, attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
Comfort communicating with donors and external partners in professional settings
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe, Zoom and Google products, and familiarity with WordPress, Canva, and similar tools
Comfortable with photograph and video collecting and organizing, and editing for social media and website
Interest in public gardens, environmental organizations, or community-based nonprofits
Work Schedule This is a full-time (40 hour/week) position. This position occasionally requires long days, nights, or weekends. Local travel may also be required.
The Botanical Garden of the Piedmont operates on a hybrid schedule and allows for regular remote work.
