Overview TorchLight Hire is seeking an Assistant Director, Digital Content Strategy to lead content planning, creation, governance, and optimization for a prominent DC-based scientific membership association. Role Responsibilities Lead digital content strategy across client’s primary website and related digital platforms, ensuring a consistent and unified brand voice
Translate organizational messaging and priorities into clear, engaging, and accurate web content
Edit and review high-quality digital content in alignment with editorial and brand standards
Guide internal teams, contributors, and subject matter experts in producing audience-focused content
Manage content production operations for a large, complex website, including timelines, approvals, and publishing workflows
Collaborate closely with designers, developers, and cross-functional partners to ensure smooth execution
Prioritize and manage competing content requests with a service-oriented, stakeholder-focused approach
Monitor website performance and analytics to inform content decisions and optimization efforts
Apply SEO, AEO/GEO, metadata, and accessibility best practices to improve discoverability and performance
Conduct content audits and recommend updates, consolidation, or removal of outdated or underperforming content
Lead taxonomy and tagging efforts to improve navigation, search, and semantic relevance
Establish and enforce content governance processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, compliance, and accessibility
Serve as the primary point of contact for content-related initiatives and requests
Train and mentor colleagues on content strategy, governance, and digital publishing best practices
Skills and Experience 10+ years of experience in content strategy, digital editorial, or web content management
Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt content to a defined brand voice
Experience managing content operations for large, complex websites
Background working with distributed contributors or subject matter experts
Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and structured publishing workflows
Strong organizational, project management, and stakeholder management skills
Service-oriented mindset with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to interpret website performance data and apply insights to content strategy
Preferred Experience Experience with SEO, AEO/GEO, accessibility, and UX best practices
Familiarity with AI-driven content optimization tools
Understanding of semantic search, structured data, and voice search trends
