Min Hourly Rate: $15.05 (Standard); $14.05 (Non-Urban); $16.30 (Portland Metro)
Max Hourly Rate: $21.50 (Standard); $21.00 (Non-Urban); $22.00 (Portland Metro)
This recruitment will be used to fill two (2) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Photo Editor for the Orange Media Network ( OMN ) at Oregon State University ( OSU ). The Photo Editor is responsible for working in collaboration with OMN’s various mediums to create and produce photographic content for use in print and online publications.

Position Duties
Photo Editor Responsibilities
Find, coordinate and assign photo assignments to photographers for The Daily Barometer, OMN magazines and websites; coach photographers to pitch their own ideas, choose and edit their best photos
Edit photos using editing software
Ensure all photos have accurate and engaging captions written in Associated Press style
Hold weekly cohort meetings with Photography staff and adviser to train, review the week’s strengths and areas for improvement, plan and execute activities for the upcoming week, month, and term
Ensure all photo assignments accurately represent the story and follow proper ethical guidelines
Compile and post photo galleries online on a regular basis on website(s) and social media platforms
Ensure photos are properly archived, organized by term and subject, including date, place, photographer and other caption information
Assist mediums with production of physical products, reviewing pages and photo placement, and ensuring photo caption information is accurate and complete before publication
Assist with breaking and other news coverage as needed, including nights, weekends and academic breaks
Attend weekly redmark meetings with Baro staff to review photographic content with adviser
Attend weekly editor meetings
Build and maintain relationships with partners and stakeholders
Grow audience engagement
Fully participate in weekly OMN Student Leadership meetings
Work to ensure that OMN program content is current, relevant, and consistent with OMN’s mission, vision, and policies
Manage payroll
Other duties as assigned by the adviser
Communication
Meet regularly with OMN adviser to go over feedback and areas for improvement
Respond to emails, messages, team chats and phone calls the same day, professionally representing OMN
Leadership
Work 20 regular office hours each week for Orange Media Network, at least half of these hours should be during regular business hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday). Hours may vary during different stages of the term.
Follow all OMN policies and procedures and hold self and all staff accountable to them
Act professionally
Ensure designs and content are centered on equitable representation and inclusion, with attention to impact on historically underrepresented and marginalized communities and constituencies
Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home‑schooling program
Undergraduate and post‑baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services ( OIS ), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
Served as a member of paid OMN staff for at least 6 months – or – as volunteer OMN staff for at least 12 months
Have working knowledge of digital cameras and basic photojournalism skills
Knowledgeable in newsgathering, news values and fact‑checking strategies
Willing to learn AP style and work within the SPJ Code of Ethics
Proficient in photo editing software
Is organized and reliable
Is a strong communicator and comfortable with public speaking
Is experienced with coaching and with giving and receiving feedback
Able to remain professional and calm when working with difficult individuals and situations
Is knowledgeable and experienced in building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders and partners
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
Had been a paid member of staff for at least 12 months
Had prior attendance and participation in OMN Fall training
Experience with InDesign or other page creation tools
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
The Photo Editor employment dates are as follows:
Full Start: Sept. 3, 2026 – June 15, 2027
Pay Rate:
Onboarding: 5 hours per week, $336/mo
Full Start: 20 hours per week, $1,344/mo
