About The Role Our healthcare client is seeking a detail‑oriented, execution‑focused Communications Specialist to provide part‑time internal communications support on a freelance basis. This role will focus on building, proofreading, and distributing internal content and newsletters, as well as maintaining a consistent presence across SCA Health’s internal communication channels. Engagement Details Employment Type: Freelance / Contract Part‑time freelance engagement, approximately 20 hours per week with the ability to flex up to 25 hours as needed. Contract duration: approximately 12–14 weeks, with potential for short extensions to support overlapping transitions or PTO coverage. Schedule must reliably support recurring production deadlines for weekly and bi‑weekly newsletters. Role is focused on hands‑on execution (not strategic leadership or management). Key Responsibilities Proofread and test the weekly internal newsletter for accuracy, clarity, links, and layout. Proofread and test the bi‑weekly Field Leader Digest newsletter prior to send. Build, publish, proofread, and test assigned articles within SharePoint. Develop and post Viva Engage content to promote SCA Connect articles and increase internal readership and engagement. Build, format, proofread, test, and distribute newsletters via Cerkl, ensuring consistency with brand and style guidelines. Draft internal content, including articles, teammate profiles, and stories tied to key healthcare observances (e.g., awareness months, recognition campaigns). Conduct internal interviews with teammates and subject matter experts to gather information and translate it into clear, engaging content. Ensure all communications meet high standards for grammar, style, formatting, accessibility, and link functionality. Support communications team members with additional written and digital communication tasks and projects as needed. Tools & Technology Cerkl – newsletter building, formatting, testing, and distribution. SharePoint – content creation, publishing, and updates for SCA Connect. Viva Engage – internal social posting and content amplification. Microsoft 365 – including Word, Outlook, Teams, and related tools for collaboration and drafting. Schedule & Availability Approx. 20 hours per week, with flexibility to increase to 25 hours during heavier production periods. Days of the week are flexible but must align with internal newsletter production and review timelines. Must be available during core business hours in the Central Time zone for collaboration and reviews. Candidate Requirements 3+ years of experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or closely related fields. Proven writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for internal audiences. Comfortable conducting internal interviews and turning notes into polished, engaging narratives. High attention to detail for proofreading, formatting, quality control, and link testing. Experience using Microsoft Office tools and at least one CMS or intranet platform. Able to provide written work samples that demonstrate internal communications capability. Located in, or able to reliably work in alignment with, the Central Time zone (preference) or Eastern Time. Prior experience in healthcare or a similarly regulated industry is a plus.
