Position Title: Graphic Design Facilitator (Part-Time)
Schedule: 2.5 hours per evening, M-Th (5:15-7:45)
Program Overview
Operation Breakthrough is launching an innovative evening program designed to empower at-risk teens by teaching real-world, hands-on skills that prepare them for industry-recognized certifications and future careers. Areas of instruction include graphic design, product design, fabrication, woodworking, computer technology, digital media, mechatronics, Cyber Security, and automotive technology.
Our mission is to provide meaningful opportunities for young people to explore their talents, develop job-ready skills, and gain the confidence they need to pursue post-secondary education or employment in high-demand fields.
Position Summary
The Twilight/Evening Graphic Design Facilitator provides hands-on instruction in visual communication and digital design to high school students. This role prepares students to earn industry-recognized certifications and/or develop a professional-quality portfolio that supports entry-level employment, internships, or postsecondary pathways in graphic design and creative industries.
The ideal candidate is a practicing designer and skilled educator who can translate professional workflows, tools, and design principles into engaging, project-based learning experiences for youth
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated professional experience in graphic design or visual communication
Proficiency in industry-standard design software
Experience teaching, mentoring, or training youth or entry-level designers
Strong communication, organization, and facilitation skills
Ability to work evening/twilight hours consistently
Preferred Qualifications
Industry-recognized design certifications (e.g., Adobe Certified Professional)
Experience preparing learners for certifications or portfolio-based assessments
Background in workforce development, CTE, or youth programming
Experience working in urban or community-based education settings
Bilingual skills a plus
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate hands-on instruction in graphic design, including typography, layout, branding, and visual storytelling
Teach industry-standard software and tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma, Canva, or similar)
Deliver curriculum aligned with industry-recognized certifications (e.g., Adobe Certified Professional)
Support students in developing job-ready portfolios by the end of the program year
Incorporate design critiques and feedback that mirror professional industry standards
Create an inclusive, culturally responsive learning environment for high school students
Model professional behaviors, including meeting deadlines, collaboration, and client-based thinking
Assess student progress through projects, skill demonstrations, and portfolio reviews
Collaborate with program staff to support student engagement, attendance, and workforce readiness
Work Schedule & Compensation
4 nights per week (M-Th) during the program year (mid-August through the end of May, with the summer months off)
Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience and certification.
