Mid-Ohio Food Collective (MOFC) is seeking an experienced, mission-driven Director of Communications to lead our organization's communications strategy and elevate our voice across our 20‑county service area. This role is ideal for a collaborative, strategic thinker who excels in storytelling, campaign leadership, and cross‑departmental partnership.
About the Role
The Director of Communications oversees MOFC's communications function, including team leadership, strategic planning, campaign management, and execution across owned media, written content, earned media, internal communications, and special‑purpose campaigns.
Reporting to the Senior VP of Communications and Public Affairs and supervising the Communications Coordinator , this leader will drive high‑quality, mission‑aligned communications that uplift MOFC's brand, impact, and customer‑centric storytelling approach.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute MOFC's comprehensive communications plan in partnership with the Senior VP of Communications and Public Affairs.
Consult with internal departments‑including Development, Brand, and Advocacy‑to align messaging across audiences and platforms.
Supervise and support the Communications Coordinator and manage department workload and priorities.
Lead the Hunger Action Month campaign and ensure year‑round visibility through aligned strategies and messaging.
Partner with the Public Relations Manager and Senior VP on earned media strategy, including press releases and rapid response.
Support development and fundraising communications‑including donor engagement, Double Your Donation Day, newsletters, direct mail, and website content.
Build and maintain a robust customer and volunteer story library and lead storytelling initiatives to elevate customer voices.
Develop crisis communications materials and support staff training.
Write scripts and talking points for key leaders for public appearances, videos, and campaigns.
Represent MOFC at community events, media opportunities, and speaking engagements.
Establish and track communications metrics to measure impact and continuously improve practices.
Contribute to organizational belonging and culture initiatives in partnership with MOFC's BEAT Council.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, political science, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
Minimum 5 years of communications experience in nonprofit, for‑profit, or public‑sector roles with demonstrated success in strategic communications planning.
Experience navigating local media landscapes and prior supervisory experience preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, WordPress, and collaboration tools.

Expertise in writing, editing, proofreading, and content development.
