Job Summary / Description KBTX News 3 is looking for an experienced journalist with a proven track record of leadership and community involvement to anchor the Brazos Valley’s dominant #1 evening newscasts. As the region’s most trusted source for news, KBTX prides itself on leadership within our newsroom and in the community. Anchors are leaders in the newsroom, lending a hand to other journalists while developing multiplatform content of their own. They are expected to embrace the people and culture of the Brazos Valley, becoming involved in local organizations and nonprofits. The ideal candidate thrives when working with a team, exhibits strong editorial judgment and is willing to do what it takes to get the best story. Anchors are expected to contribute to the editorial process each day, regularly create compelling enterprise content, develop story ideas and sources, and work with producers to generate innovative newscasts that take intentional, creative risks. Duties and Responsibilities Anchor and report in assigned daily newscasts on broadcast and digital platforms. Pitch, create, and syndicate local, creative content utilizing beat sources, community relationships, and story leads. Champion impactful storytelling while generating content for KBTX newscasts, including regular enterprise reporting; work with or without a photojournalist to combine engaging video, meaningful sound, and relatable characters. Build contacts and sources throughout the community and with stakeholders on assigned beats while establishing a notable presence online and in the community. Mentor fellow journalists with a focus on creating strong, passionate storytellers. Bolster station credibility and community investment through involvement in local organizations and appearances on behalf of the station. Lead the production of enterprise special reports on a quarterly basis. Qualifications / Requirements 4–6 years of anchor/reporting experience. Degree in broadcast journalism or a related field. Strong, demonstrated news judgment. Superior writing and copy‑editing skills. Proficiency in story creation and newscast production. Working knowledge of AP ENPS, GrassValley EDIUS, and BitCentral systems. Candidates should also exhibit a good work ethic, strong people skills, and maintain a professional attitude at all times.
