Overview
The Discovery Tech team helps customers discover and engage with new, popular and relevant products across Amazon worldwide. We build customer-facing features and experiences alongside advanced tools for marketers, by combining technology, science, and innovation. You will create and build critical services that automatically generate, target, and optimize Amazon’s cross-category marketing and merchandising. Through enablement of intelligent marketing campaigns that leverage machine-learning models, you will help deliver the best possible shopping experience for Amazon’s customers globally.
We are looking for analytical problem solvers who enjoy data, are excited about data science and statistics, can multi-task, and can credibly interface between engineering teams and business stakeholders. Your analytical abilities, business understanding, and technical savvy will be used to identify actionable opportunities to solve business problems and explore future opportunities. Your domain spans the design, development, testing, and deployment of data-driven and scalable machine learning solutions in product recommendation.
As an Applied Scientist, you bring business and industry context to science and technology decisions. You set the standard for scientific excellence and make decisions that affect how we build and integrate algorithms. Your solutions should demonstrate excellence in algorithm design, model structure, efficiency, and extensibility. You tackle hard problems and decompose complex problems into straightforward solutions.

Responsibilities Contribute to the design, development, testing, and deployment of data-driven, scalable ML solutions for product recommendations and marketing analytics.
Build and optimize services that automatically generate, target, and optimize cross-category marketing campaigns.
Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to identify opportunities and translate them into actionable ML solutions.
Communicate scientific decisions and trade-offs clearly to non-technical partners.
Basic Qualifications PhD, or Master’s degree and 1+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business applications
Preferred Qualifications Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
Experience with generative deep learning models applicable to the creation of synthetic humans like CNNs, GANs, VAEs and NF

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
