Overview
The Business Development Specialist is responsible for expanding Careforth’s presence across underserved rural Ohio communities. Reporting to the Director of Sales & Community Partnerships, this role focuses on building new referral infrastructure, identifying Medicaid-eligible populations, and developing relationships with agencies and organizations that support caregiver and member needs. Responsibilities
Serve as the face of Careforth across a dedicated rural Ohio territory, executing localized business development strategies that connect families with essential caregiver support services Conduct market research to identify Medicaid-eligible populations, referral pathways, and agencies supporting aging, disability, and caregiver services Build and maintain relationships with PASSPORT agencies, healthcare providers, and aging/disability advocacy groups to embed Careforth into the local care ecosystem Plan and execute caregiver education sessions, community outreach, and referral-focused events Generate and qualify professional referrals and ensure timely handoff to Account Managers Serve as Careforth’s consistent in-person presence within rural communities Track outreach activity, referral development, and lead outcomes in CRM systems Share market intelligence, referral trends, and competitive insights with key stakeholders Perform other duties as assigned, potentially including home assessment and start-of-service activities Qualifications
3-5 years of experience in business development, community outreach, or field sales required, preferably in a healthcare environment; experience working with Medicaid population is strongly desired Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience Active or eligible Ohio Social Work license (LSW or LISW) highly preferred Prior experience in social work, case management, care coordination, or community-based human services highly preferred Strong relationship-building and community engagement skills Proven ability to work independently in a remote, field-based role Ability
to travel throughout the rural Northern Ohio territory (typically ~60-70% of the time) Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (mileage reimbursement provided per Careforth policy)
