Overview
Job Summary The Residence Director (RD) is a twelve-month, full-time, live-in professional staff position. The start date is negotiable with the end of the first term on May 31st of that academic year. All subsequent terms run June 1st to May 31st. This is a one-year appointment renewable up to a maximum of 4 years. At the discretion of the Assistant Dean of Students, a 5th year appointment can be extended if mutually agreed upon. The employment contract is reviewed periodically for renewal based on satisfactory performance, development, and potential contributions to the Office of Community Living. For the convenience of the University, the Residence Director must accept housing in a residential facility on the main campus as a condition of accepting this position. Responsibilities
Provide overall care and wellness for residents in the assigned community, including outreach and connection to the USF community and available resources.
Plan, implement, operate, and evaluate a comprehensive residential curriculum for a residence hall or on-campus housing community of approximately 2800 residents.
Supervise up to two graduate student Assistant Residence Directors (ARDs), 6–16 Resident Advisors (RAs), and manage building facilities operations.
Lead student care management, staff development and training, and building residential curriculum implementation.
Advise student groups (e.g., Residence Hall Council) and manage emergency response, crisis management, and student leadership development.
Support academic initiatives, AOD and multicultural/social justice education, orientation, health and wellness, and partnerships with living-learning communities.
Work with residential education committees, supervise special projects, and undertake special assignments at departmental and university levels.
Direct staff in communicating and administering Residential Education and University policies; serve as a student conduct hearing officer with disciplinary records and sanctions.
Develop and monitor budgets for residence hall community development programs and initiatives.
Staff Training, Development, and Personnel Administration
Recruit, select, supervise, train, develop, and evaluate Resident Advisors; supervise Assistant Residence Directors (if assigned).
Provide direction to staff efforts, promote effective staff relations, and facilitate information exchange (e.g., weekly staff meetings).
Maintain liaison with Resident Ministers and encourage hall staff to develop this relationship; approve time-sheets for hourly staff as applicable.
Develop and monitor a fiscally responsible budget for residence hall programming and initiatives.
Physical Facilities, Environment, Safety and Security
Establish safety precautions and provide emergency training for staff; coordinate with facilities management and Title IX responsibilities (mandated reporter).
Coordinate opening/closing of the residential community and staff duty coverage; participate in campus-wide duty coverage as needed.
Set expectations for coordination with facilities, janitorial, food service, and public safety to ensure smooth operation; manage summer guest housing handoffs.
Other Duties
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with University faculty, staff, and administration.
Research and stay current on issues in student affairs and residence life; serve on department and university committees as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Residential Education, or Assistant Dean of Students, or their designee.
Qualifications
Master's Degree in Student Personnel or a related field preferred, with at least one year of residence life experience; graduate-level experience is a plus.
