Primary Purpose ComEd is currently looking for 2 directors to join our Transmission and Substation Engineering management team.
The Director of Transmission Engineering will provide strategic leadership for the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the high‑voltage transmission system. This role partners across the organization to lead initiatives that impact regulatory policy, transmission planning, technology adoption, and capital investment strategies.
The Director of Substation Engineering will provide strategic leadership for the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of substations. This role partners across the organization to lead initiatives that impact technology adoption and capital investment strategies.
Both roles will ensure system safety, reliability, resiliency, and full regulatory compliance, while driving long‑term grid modernization and supporting future system growth. The position will lead the identification, evaluation, and implementation of innovative technologies that enhance performance and operational efficiency (transmission grid or substation).
In addition, the Director will lead and direct the personnel and activities of the T&S Engineering organization, to optimize the engineering and design activities of the Transmission Lines, Relay and Protection, and Substation Engineering and Equipment groups ensuring adherence to standards while using technical expertise to maximize system reliability balanced with an understanding of the financial impact.
Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Manages the overall budget. Establishes and monitors business plans and business unit objectives. Balances cost control with appropriate capital and maintenance investments.
Develop and maintain an environment that fosters a high performance culture and a learning organization. Leads the management team in promoting diversity. Serves as a change agent for business initiatives and assures the human element is understood and considered. Assure timely recognition of employee contributions. Develops methods to assess communication effectiveness and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide leadership to and development of the management team. Provide accurate and timely feedback regarding performance and operations. Conduct performance planning and appraisals. Identify opportunities for growth and learning. Facilitates open and honest communication with staff. Assures that upward communication is integrated into the process, including employee concerns and complaints.
Establish, maintain and improve relationships with other departments in Exelon, the regional operating companies and the local communities.

Reports to the Vice President of Transmission and Substations Engineering and is responsible for a staff of managers and employees. Employee make-up is primarily degreed engineers.
Manages the engineering and design support of multimillion dollar construction work performed annually across the company.
Assures compliance to regulatory requirements and manages the design basis of Exelon's transmission and substation assets. Prioritizes, challenges, and sponsors the execution of capital projects. Area of responsibility is complex in nature, and requires a solid understanding of associated technology.
Ensures alignment of T&S goals with regional goals and provides support for the Electric Operations VPs within ComEd.
Responsible for providing the technical support for materials, equipment, design, maintenance and construction standards, regulatory codes, and forensics analysis to internal customers ranging from front line electrician to vice president.
Responsible for establishing the specification for the selection and approval of all materials used to construct the transmission and distribution system. Responsible for overseeing the development and support of standard engineering design practices and construction standards used by the company to design and construction the system.
Responsible for the organization's response to emergent activities, catastrophic events and storms.
Actions have direct impact on safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction goals, the transmission revenue stream, the generation revenue stream of Exelon, and the public, political, and regulatory opinion of the company.
Operates autonomously with wide latitude for un-reviewed actions and decisions. Establishes performance goals and expectations, coaches, mentors and provides feedback to direct reports.
Maintains effective internal business controls by conducting audits, self-assessments, investigations and employee reviews.
Builds strategic alignment with senior management, & key management peers (DSO, TSO, C&M, P&CM, AM&E) and T&S associates.
Meet with regulators and government officials as necessary to support transmission and substation engineering practices.
Influence transmission and substation industry standards and specifications through department support and participation on national standards making bodies and research activities.
Other external contacts include co-generation and other key customers, substation equipment vendors, regulators, auditors and various municipal authorities (fire, police, city mayors, etc).
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
Experience: At least 12 years of industry experience, including at least 5 years as an electric T&D supervisor and/or manager.
Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver's license
Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of regulatory issues.
Skills:
Proven leadership ability in a high-performance culture, including coaching and facilitating business competency and performance management skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, build consensus, establish trust, and foster culture change.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement process enhancements and efficiencies including technology and performance.

Education: Graduate degree or Graduate Level work in Engineering, Business Administration or related field.
Experience: Electric industry background in the construction, maintenance and troubleshooting of transmission & substation equipment and systems.
Certifications/Licenses: Professional Engineer's license.
Knowledge: In-depth technical understanding of transmission and substation components and system protection devices and schemes.
Skills: Influential on external matters that demonstrate or highlight the Company as a leader on softer issues such as the environment and commitment to inclusive culture.

Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $178,400.00/Yr. – $245,300.00/Yr. plus an additional $50K in Long Term Incentive Plan annually
