Overview
Regional Safety Director – Midwest Region Transdev, North America’s leading mobility company, is seeking a Regional Safety Director (RSD) to support our Midwest region. This role plays a critical part in advancing Transdev’s safety culture by proactively managing safety performance and ensuring the delivery of safe, reliable service across the region. As a key strategic partner, the RSD will lead safety initiatives, guide local teams, and support continuous improvement efforts to protect employees, passengers, and the communities we serve. Measure and monitor compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable regulations including FTA, FMCSA, DOT, OSHA/OHS, DHS, and client requirements. Ensure training meets Transdev guidelines and industry’s best practices. Coordinate support, rollout, and project management for new safety initiatives, training programs, and safety-related activities within the region. Collect and manage regional data to complete monthly safety reports; ensure accuracy and adherence to deadlines. Partner with local teams to analyze all safety events, including injuries and serious incidents, and ensure appropriate follow-up and documentation. Identify safety trends and recommend corrective actions based on data, patterns, and operational insight. Train local trainers, safety personnel, and managers on all safety programs and requirements. Assist in developing and updating regional written materials such as procedures, safety posters, safety alerts, lesson plans, and presentations. Collaborate with the Risk Department to support management and legal processes related to injuries and collisions in the region. Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required Two (2) years of college strongly preferred Minimum 10 years of safety and/or transportation experience Deep knowledge of OSHA/regulatory standards Collision investigation training Minimum 5 years’ experience in fleet transportation management State/Provincial Instructor Certification in at least one state/province within the region Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and corporate databases Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate others and drive behavioral safety changes Physical Requirements
Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday Travel frequently within the Midwest region, including driving or riding in company vehicles, visiting transit properties, and conducting on‑site safety inspections Occasionally lift, carry, or move materials and equipment up to 25 pounds Navigate transit facilities, maintenance shops, yards, and active operational environments, including uneven surfaces, stairs, and outdoor areas in varying weather conditions Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety vests, hard hats, safety glasses, and protective footwear during site visits Conduct on‑site accident or incident investigations, which may involve bending, crouching, standing for long periods, and accessing restricted areas Communicate effectively in office and field environments, including clear verbal communication, hearing standard conversation levels, and viewing documents, screens, and operational areas EEO and Accommodations
