Summer Fundraising & Marketing Intern Job Specifications: 18-20 hours/week | $15/hour | Mid-May – Mid-August | Location: Duluth & Superior (Hybrid)

About Mentor North Mentor North builds resilience and expands opportunity for young people through supported one-to-one mentoring relationships in Duluth and Superior. Through consistent connections with caring adults, youth strengthen confidence, develop positive identity, and expand their sense of possibility.

Position Overview Mentor North seeks an organized, creative, detail-oriented Fundraising & Marketing Intern to support development and event efforts, with a primary focus on our June 25th Summer Fest in Superior. This position offers experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, marketing, and event coordination.

The intern will work closely with the Development and Communications Coordinator and Summer Fest Task Force to help ensure a successful event and strong donor stewardship throughout the summer.

Key Responsibilities

Summer Fest Event Support

Conduct phone calls and follow-up outreach to sponsors, donors, and supporters

Assist with donation requests and auction item coordination

Design signage and promotional materials in Canva

Assist with recruitment and coordination of event volunteers

Support day-of-event setup, logistics, and donor recognition

Coordinate and implement post-event thank-you communications

Fundraising & Marketing Support

Assist with donor stewardship and recognition tracking

Support social media and email promotion

Help prepare marketing materials

Ensure accurate documentation of donations and in-kind contributions

Qualifications

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Comfort making phone calls and asking for donations

Experience with Canva or similar design platforms

Organized, reliable, and detail-oriented

Interest in nonprofit work, youth development, or community engagement

Ability to work occasional evening hours

Work Environment

Based in Superior and Duluth, with a combination of in-office, remote, and community-based work

Intermittent travel throughout the Twin Ports for meetings and events

Dynamic, fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and collaboration

Sustained periods of computer-based work, phone calls, and digital communication

Promptness and reliability required to support scheduled activities and events

Physical Requirements

Occasionally moves, transports, sets up, and takes down event supplies (tables, chairs, canopy with weights, displays)

Accesses items stored at various heights using safe methods

Sustains attention and communication in varied indoor and outdoor environments
