Overview
The Woodlands Course at Whittaker is an 18-hole daily fee, public golf facility designed through the wetlands of New Buffalo, MI. The Woodlands Course at Whittaker supports the upper tier of the hospitality market within Michiana and the surrounding area along with the local golf market in New Buffalo. The Club has successful relationships and partnerships with the local casino and hotels.
The Club offers an 18-hole championship golf course with bent grass tees, fairways, and greens along with blue grass/fescue rough and surrounds. The Club has a grass tee, full length practice facility with a short game facility along with a dedicated putting green and a dedicated chipping green for the golf course.
The Clubhouse setting features a fully merchandised Pro Shop, indoor bar and restaurant with an outside patio overlooking the 18 th green. The Clubhouse setting also features private dining and corporate meeting space. The Woodlands Course at Whittaker offers a separate banquet facility which holds 350 guests that
Experience Required
Experienced Assistant or Head Golf Professional
Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations
Fundamental supervisory practices and principles with a focus on training and leading a team of associates to serve our golfing guests
Act as a role model for all associates by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all associates
Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills
Self-motivated with desire to promote and market the facility
Experienced in written and oral business communications
Experienced computer use including; Microsoft Word and Excel. Proficient in other applications, i.e. email, internet, tournament, and database
Maintain and promote a positive professional image within the community
Essential Responsibilities
Full Golf Operations Management
Recruit, hire, train, motivate, and supervise and lead all golf department staff
Oversee and manage the tee time reservation system on a daily basis
Oversee and manage the starting of play and monitoring the pace of play
Oversee and manage the golf car fleet while ensuring proper maintenance, cleaning, and record keeping
Oversee and manage the operations of the practice facility
Oversee and manage retail operation in the pro shop in step with the mission of the facility
Oversee and manage the retail buying plans and all golf related purchasing
Arrange 'Demo Days' with vendors to provide opportunities for members to test new products
Supervise physical inventory counts on a timely basis
Present a diverse and desirable array of golf equipment, apparel, and accessories
Is visible and present at all golf events, leagues, and various social events, and understands that summers demand high hours and lower in the winter months
Ensure the proper storage, safety, and cleaning of golf equipment
Develop, maintain, and update the customer database
Promote golf related sales and activities by utilizing the customer database
Assist with the marketing of the entire facility with golf department support
Meet with the golf course superintendent as needed regarding playability and course conditioning issues
Support the golf course superintendent as needed to ensure proper agronomic practices
Update and maintain golf shop policies and procedures and job descriptions and ensure they are adhered to and posted in the proper areas
Maintain safety standards and safety equipment within OSHA requirements
Assist in the preparation of the club's annual golf budget and financials
Benefits
Base salary of $70,000 to $90,000
