Founded in 1826 as a home for orphaned children, St. John's has evolved into a nonprofit social services agency providing residential care to New York City youth involved in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems. We offer holistic, trauma-informed support to young people up to age 21.

Our main campus in Rockaway Park, Queens, houses a Residential Treatment Center, Close to Home Non-Secure Placement programs, administrative offices, clinical services, and an on-site NYC Department of Education school. We also operate a Non-Secure Detention residence in Richmond Hill and Limited Secure Placement programs in Brooklyn and Staten Island.

Summary Job Description:

The Porter is responsible for ensuring a clean, safe and hazard free environment of the agency. The individual takes pride in their work and foresees housekeeping needs, throughout the agency, to ensure an appropriate environment. Consistently works to make sure that the facility is neat, clean, free from clutter and aesthetically pleasing. Individual spends his/her day removing trash/debris, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and/or using industrial cleaning equipment to clean floors; responsible for cleaning and stocking bathrooms.

Principal Responsibilities: Demonstratesfidelity to the agency's service values and organizational imperatives. Responsible for daily upkeep of agency grounds, both inside and out to include curbside and parkingarea. Ensure the agency presents as wellmaintainedfor staff and visitors alike,at all times, by ensuring to sweep, mop, vacuum, empty trash, clean windows, etc., regularly/ as needed in the agency school, administrative area,lobbiesand all other areas as needed. Ensure proper posting of precautionary signage during housekeeping activities, to prevent incidents of physical harm among staff/ visitors. Responsible for checking and cleaning agency restrooms, conference rooms,kitchensandcommon areasthroughout their shift, as needed, but not less than twice daily.

Responsible for removing debris,graffitiand any/all other trash from the agency departments and floors. Responsible for replenishing toilet paper, hand towels & other toiletries/cleaning products throughout the agency as needed. Assesses andcommunicatesneed for ordering supplies forhousekeepingdepartment. Ensures themselves available and ready toassistwith emergency housekeeping needs, including assisting/partnering with maintenance for snow removal during inclement weather and other tasks. Report any issues/ concerns todepartmentDirectorin a timely manner; responding to needs related to housekeeping ina timelyfashion. Responsible for floor stripping and waxing as needed. Assistsin set-up and clean-up during special agency events. Performs special disinfectant processes asneeded,throughout the agency. Attends position related/ agencytrainingsas required/ recommended. Performs all other duties as assigned.

**For any/all overnight shift employee: In addition to the core responsibilities listed above, the overnight shift requirements include the following Remain awake andalert at all times Check on youth during the night as prescribed and deal with any/ all issues that may arise Assistyouth in their morning routines Follow protocols when youth are sick Follow unit specific household duties as assigned Refrain from engaging in personal activities that are not work related Notify night-time administrator of any major concerns

Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma w/a minimum of 1-year experience with office and grounds cleaning and upkeep. Additionally, this role requires strong communication skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and address independently. The ideal candidate responsible, professional and reliable individual with a capacity for cleaning. The Porter must have the physical capability to lift/ push a minimum of 30 pounds independently. Effective communicator, able to relay information across departments/ departmental staff. Strong organizational skills with good time management.

Travel Requirements:

This position may require travel between 2 to 3 residential programs located in Queens, Staten Island, or Brookyln. Travel to St. John's administrative offices for meetings, trainings, etc. is also required.
