Education Reporter Jefferson City News Tribune | Jefferson City, Missouri Full-time | Reports to: City Editor The Jefferson City News Tribune seeks an Education Reporter to cover K12, higher education, and education policy in Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri. You will get to illuminate how education decisions, funding, and policies shape the lives of students, families, educators, and our community. Dive into coverage of the Jefferson City School District, area K12 districts, Lincoln University of Missouri, State Technical College of Missouri, the University of Missouri Board of Curators, and statewide education agencies. Responsibilities Report daily and enterprise stories on education institutions and policy Attend school board meetings and education events as needed. Develop sources and pursue watchdog and accountability reporting. Gather and verify information through interviews, documents, and public records. Write clear, accurate stories in AP style. Collaborate with editors on story development and presentation. Occasionally take photos or record basic video. Qualifications Bachelors degree in journalism, communications, or related field, or three years of professional reporting experience Strong writing, interviewing, and organizational skills Knowledge of public records and media law Ability to report on sensitive topics with professionalism and fairness Benefits & Requirements We offer benefits for our full-time employees, including health, dental, and vision insurance; life insurance; vacation, personal days, and sick leave.
