JOB SUMMARY

Performs duties to support the Veterans Affairs Program. Under supervision, provides assistance to the Veterans Affairs Specialist by processing claims for veteran benefits. May also provide other direct services, such as transportation.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in veteran history project research.

Assists in filing veteran claims for benefits.

Assists in organizing veteran events such as dinners, ceremonies and outings.

Assists in operating veteran recreation room.

Provides administrative services when needed, including correspondence preparation, file preparation, mail distribution, and reception backup.

Provides transportation services to clients when needed.

Candidates must be willing and able to work irregular hours, as required occasionally

Works on other projects as assigned.

Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

Graduation from a high school or equivalent. One (1) year general office/administrative experience. One (1) year customer service experience. Previous experience working with veterans’ programs (health, social services and resources) preferred.

SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

Conducting research, Reading and oral and written communication, Event planning and organization, Learning office practices and procedures, operating office equipment, following clearly stated oral and written instructions or procedures, Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and clients as required by work assignments, Following-through on assignments as directed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The working conditions described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class. The employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear, and drive a motor vehicle. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, reach with hands and arms, use hands to operate, grasp, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls , and use feet to move controls on vehicles, machinery or equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee may occasionally be exposed to exhaust fumes. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

Licenses or Certifications Required

Current and valid Washington State Driver’s License required at time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe. Commercial driver’s license preferred.
