The Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations The Permanent Mission of the UAE has been an integral part of the UN community since the founding of the UAE in 1971. The Mission contributes to the important work of the United Nations at all levels, and acts as a link to stakeholders at capital. Job Summary The Speechwriter plays a central role in ensuring coherence of policy and narrative across all products going to or coming from the Ambassador, in particular his speeches. This role works with all stakeholders inside and outside the Mission to prepare speeches and other communications materials. The role requires an advanced degree of judgement on international affairs; highly developed English writing and editing skills; knowledge of the diplomatic and United Nations context; and excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to write in different voices and styles, including developing an understanding of the written style of the principal. Editing speeches, press releases, letters, social media posts as needed. Strong editing skills, including ability to edit for style and copy while retaining original content and meaning. Experience editing other writers under a uniform style guide preferred. Drafting talking points and short briefs for the Ambassador. Assisting with other Mission projects as needed, including event preparations. Keeping all materials and information highly confidential. Adhering to all Mission policies. Ability to represent the Ambassador and the Mission in a diplomatic context. Keen ability to prioritize, with a good sense of judgment. Detail-oriented and thorough, including follow-up on priority tasks. Ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment. Assiduousness and dedication. Experience working in a very diverse team. Knowledge of the Middle East. Familiarity of the UAE a plus. Maintaining confidentiality while sharing information effectively. Education and Experience Academic background in politics, international relations, multilateral institutions, or a related field.
