OVERVIEW:
The Divisional Finance Director (DFD) serves as the Division’s chief financial steward and primary custodian of all divisional assets. This role oversees financial management, accounting integrity, and regulatory compliance while ensuring adherence to organizational policies and GAAP. The DFD provides strategic financial leadership through budgeting, forecasting, reporting, internal controls, audits, and risk management. Working closely with divisional leadership and program teams, the DFD offers analysis and guidance to support sound decision‑making and long‑term sustainability. Additionally, the DFD leads the finance team, standardizes financial processes across the Division, and ensures timely, accurate, and transparent reporting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advise the Divisional Commander and administration on fiscal policy and financial management
Oversee management reporting, including financial statements, audits, and budgets
Ensure accounting procedures comply with GAAP, FASB, and Salvation Army policy
Oversee divisional accounting systems, fiscal controls, and financial management processes
Meet monthly with leadership to review financial status, estates and trusts, red loans, thrift stores, and budget updates
Oversee report development and share financial summaries in clear, accessible language
Serve as Secretary for CFC and present requisitions, budgets, and audits
Provide financial data interpretation as a member of CFC
Recommend fiscal operating changes and ensure account analysis aligns with policy and funding requirements
Support field units with accounting issues and provide training
Conduct annual financial reviews of each field unit
Review and approve unit and DHQ invoices as needed
Maintain relationships with independent auditors, present audits, authorize fees, and serve on the Audit Committee
Keep management informed of financial and personnel factors affecting decisions
Direct preparation of budgets and financial forecasts
Serve as liaison and secretary for the SF Metro Advisory Board Finance Committee and attend meetings as requested
Attend Advisory Council or Board meetings as assigned
Compile mileage for officers for accurate tax reporting
Manage multiple projects amid interruptions and office noise
Meet constant deadlines and shifting priorities
Interact with individuals who may be upset or frustrated
Organize projects, set priorities, analyze information, and collaborate effectively
Work independently with minimal supervision
Travel overnight occasionally
Other related duties as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business or related (required)
Current CPA or CMA certification (required)
Experience in managerial accounting (5 years required)
Supervisory experience (5 years required)
Valid CA driver’s license (required)
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to serve effectively as a leadership team member
Strong knowledge of GAAP and FASB guidelines
Proficiency in Excel and Word with working experience in Access and PowerPoint
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Adherence to all Salvation Army policies and procedures
Maintain professional, courteous, and respectful interactions with all contacts
Demonstrate cooperation, initiative, flexibility, and accuracy in completing work
Handle sensitive and confidential information with the highest level of security
Self‑discipline to work independently and reliably

Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes)
