Specialty Services Deputy Director

Description of Work This position provides leadership and operational oversight for the Convalescent (Non-Emergency Transport) and Community Paramedic programs within Davie County Emergency Medical Services. The Specialty Services Deputy Director ensures these programs operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Work involves supervising personnel, coordinating daily operations, supporting training and policy development, and maintaining high standards of patient care and documentation. The Specialty Services Deputy Director works closely with the Director Emergency Medical Services Director, Medical Director, Training Coordinator, and administrative staff to support staffing, quality improvement, billing compliance, and operational readiness. The Specialty Services Deputy Director collaborates with hospitals, healthcare providers, public safety partners, and community organizations to ensure effective service delivery. This position assists with budgeting, grant management, complaint resolution, and other leadership initiatives related to specialty service programs. In the absence of the Emergency Medical Services Director and Assistant Director, this position may assume leadership responsibilities for the department. Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.

Essential Duties and Tasks

Supervises personnel assigned to the Convalescent Transport and Community Paramedic programs, including performance evaluations and daily operational guidance.

Ensures staff are properly trained to perform program duties in coordination with the Training Coordinator and Medical Director.

Coordinates daily scheduling and dispatch of convalescent transport and community paramedic appointments and calls.

Oversees program policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and clinical requirements.

Reviews documentation and operational processes to ensure accurate billing, compliance with reimbursement guidelines, and proper completion of required transport documentation.

Monitors patient caseloads and service delivery for community paramedic and peer support programs.

Maintains working relationships with hospitals, healthcare providers, public safety agencies, and community partners.

Communicates operational updates and guidance to specialty services personnel.

Identifies operational challenges and opportunities for improvement within specialty service programs.

Ensures vehicles and equipment assigned to specialty services are properly maintained and stocked.

Attends management meetings and communicates important information to program staff.
